I am very sorry to hear that Oliver Doughty has passed away. I don't know the details of what happened, but I am shocked by the news.
I hadn't been in contact with him for about a year, but I know that we could have easily picked up where we left off.
I never met Ollie in person, only through email, Facebook messages, and blog entries, but we communicated a lot. Our conversations went beyond business and touched on personal matters, and I know he was a great guy.
We initially connected because of our shared interest in Vectrex, but we lost touch after Ollie pursued his other retro hobby, the C64.
During the development of "Karl Quappe," we had intense contact, and Ollie was an invaluable tester who provided support when I needed it.
The same was true for my game "Release," where Ollie engaged in intense beta testing and composed all the music for the game. The music in "Release" received high praise from Vectrex enthusiasts, particularly because it utilized only one sound channel - it is truly marvelous!
Ollie also created two YouTube videos to help other music enthusiasts interested in working on Vectrex projects.
After that, we drifted apart a little, but when I started my next big project, "Vectorblade", I could count on Ollie's support once again. He composed all the music for Vectorblade as well.
He had a deep love for the Vectrex and the Vectrex community (with a few exceptions). Ollie was an incredibly generous person, releasing all his work into the public domain, allowing us to still use his music in other projects.
In gratitude for his support with Vectorblade, I wanted to gift him one of the special editions of the game, as I had done before with the "green Karl Quappe." However, Ollie insisted, "Keep it, sell it on eBay, and get some value back for all the effort you put into Vectorblade."
I was always a little ashamed that I actually did exactly what he wished.
Thank you, Ollie, for being such a wonderful person. I miss you.
