To coincide with the release of the physical edition of Vectral (containing Wireout-RE 2X, Honey & Nuka Bomb), I'd like to introduce you to an ambitious project for encyclopedic cards dedicated to ... Vectrex, of course! (and a little more widely to vector-based video games). Some time ago, Côté Gamers and I launched this concept of an encyclopedia in the form of cards (postcard format, full color, double-sided, so they're large cardboard sheets). We've already written several volumes (PC Engine, SNES, Game & Watch...) and I'm now focusing on the Vectrex. The idea behind the concept is to cover EVERYTHING to do with the Vectrex, and the card format also means that things don't become obsolete, as you can add cards about new games you haven't heard of yet
Of course, there's also a collection aspect, but you can be sure that it doesn't detract from the content, which is intended to be encyclopedic and to preserve information. I think that any Vectrex enthusiast should find what they're looking for. Of course, some things will be well known, but others won't be, whether it's information you've never really read on the Internet before, developer secrets, etc. There's also a desire for preservation, so the things that are known must be preserved, of course! The card format allows us to evolve, but also, in time, to classify the cards as we see fit. By theme, in alphabetical order, by grouping together all the cards for a game, etc. It's up to each and every one of us to do what we want.
It's a really ambitious project, and not something that can be done lightly and quickly. There are long phases of research, cross-referencing information, testing, scanning, making original screenshots, checking, layout, in order to fit in as much information as possible, to offer continuity between all the cards and to open up new perspectives (for example, we suggest other game names, which have a link with the one concerned by the card. This allows you to broaden your research and go beyond the horizon of the single game concerned).
These volumes devoted to the Vectrex have also prompted us to refine our thoughts on the layout of these sheets, and even on the types of sheets, because this Vectrex project is really about going the whole hog, and we don't want to leave out anything that concerns the history, genesis, games... of this magnificent machine.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! This project is also yours, because I've already contacted a number of developers who've played along - and I'd like to thank them! - and I intend to contact others, even "simple" enthusiasts, who are also working towards the longevity of the console and helping to make its history ever more detailed and better known.
