Herr Professor, my score seems to be missing. I qualified in all but Polar Rescue, Heads Up Game 3, and Vyrzon, so I think I should have been in the final list? But I do see myself on the first post, so maybe this was a copy paste error? PS: Occassionally you have to let me know why you call me "Professor". FAIK, Peer ( Peer ) is the only real professor, here. Peer (The real Professor): Thanks for the Spinball info, will try this out. hcmffm (No Professor, but Vector War specialist and organisator number 1) ... PS: Occassionally you have to let me know why you call me "Professor". FAIK, Peer ( Peer ) is the only real professor, here. Oh my goodness! I of all people have been confusing my consonant usernames! Well, you'll always be a professor to me Please guys, these title-stuff discussions make me feel slightly uncomfortable. Yes, I do have titles. And Germany tends to be rather formal about titles. The Dr. is my scientific degree, and in Germany this is legally considered as a part of my surname, and I am required to use it in any official documents. The professor is my job-title, and I am required to use it in matters related to my academic position. This is the only reason why these titles occur on my Vectrex web pages and in the documents related to my classroom course.
Throughout all my life I have been driven by curiosity (my parents can tell you stories of me taking things apart just to see what is inside them, including my childhood Vectrex), and I have been very lucky to be able to work in research areas ever since my first job. But I never did this to collect titles, but just because there were so many interesting things to be discovered. And I still would love to know and to explore so much more, and there are way too many new ideas and not enough time to pursue them all.
Of the large majority of you I do not know your real world names or your daily jobs, and apologies if I keep confusing your avatars and your real world names. Feel free to address me or to refer to me in whatever way you like.
I started playing with my Vectrex as a child, and I am still playing with it now as an old man. See how far I got in life?
Many Cheers, Peer
PS: VectorX , is it possible to change one's avatar name on the forum? Same account, no posts disappearing, just a new name? If so, I would like to simply go by "peer".

Forum names drive me nuts, having different names on different forums is so confusing, it's completely the opposite of what forums are for in the first place - creation of a community. This is why I always put my (semi-obfuscated) name in my signature, so you can see who I am across all forums and so Google can't index it.

Thanks to Helmut and everyone else who contributed to the best VW yet. Really enjoyed it. Wet Cat was the highlight for me. Happy Bird grew on me and by the end I was thoroughly enjoying each attempt. Vec Drift was brutal, and my brain didn't like the switching of directions but it added a fun mechanic. Well done to the champions. Such a close one this year. Decimal points. Who'd have thought the Vectrex was capable of such close competition.

Yes, just go to Profile at the top right on your account (actually it's really at the center), click on Edit Profile at the top right of that page, click on the Personal tab at top left and then change it under Display Name (first one at top).

I just love these conversations before, during and after the Vector War. Maybe we should do 5 Vector Wars during a year, or such ones that last 1 month? (Sorry Helmut, just kidding, I know: 1 Vector War / year and 1 week is enough, and I think it is the optimum.) Anyway: If somebody reaches the end of Wet Cat, a post anywhere in the forum here would be nice. (If there is a nice ending for example with a nice picture, maybe post it with spoiler warning.)

I just love these conversations before, during and after the Vector War. … So do I. It is great how this forum has come to life during the last week.

Cavern Rescue 51700 Congrats on this one! I totally missed your post just before my last score post. My all time high score for Cavern Rescue is 50025, but that wasn't on hardcore mode and I'm sure it wasn't one life. Always nice to have higher goals

Always nice to have higher goals I completely missed that post too and thought I had the high score. That game still helped me out in the rankings though. I wish the game was longer but there's still extra points to get due to the energy mechanic.

Yep I beat every body at Cavern Rescue. I didn't have time to play even one more game the way it worked out at the last minute. I knew I was topping previous high scores and it was my goal, but it was a little luck that I edged you jbrodback, since I didn't know your score until it was too late and totally wasn't expecting it. I think I did end up getting near as many little points as I could have, which wasn't always the case when I was going for the score.

You, Vorkosigan, playvectrex, and jbrodack play at the very top level of Cavern Rescue. Super-impressive! As each of you have already noted, getting the orb and out of the cavern FAST will be the only way to get extra points. All three of you already know to get all 10 orbs in order to get the 5000 bonus. You might be surprised by how much the leftover energy points add up. Gliptitude, you got 51,700.... I think you could get close to 53,000 if you sped thru the caverns.
Jbrodack - I know it's way too short. It's one of those things, "if I knew then what I know now", I really think I could have added 4 or 5 more caverns in there. I was barely able to get what I got in there as I learned while writing that game.
Anyways, there's nothing that makes me happier than seeing you guys get engaged in the game. It really makes it all very worth it! Thanks for that!!!
Scott

As said earlier, I am currently analyzing and going through the code of Spinball. Nothing spectacular so far (the Easter egg has been discovered earlier and is already known), but it is still interesting. I will post some of the details later in the Spinball thread.
Have you noticed that Spinball does not display well in ParaJVE? The ball is off to the right. This is due to the fact that Spinball draws the ball as a string, using the Print_Str() BIOS function and the 0x65 character (filled circle). I have long since suspected that ParaJVE has some inaccuracy when emulating Print_Str(). Large texts are displayed being too much offset to the right. Spinball now confirms this.
Another fun fact: Spinball also draws the spring of the plunger as a string by means of Print_Str(). Here it uses the 0x6F character (filled square), and the extending-spring effect when pulling the plunger is achieved by modifying the height of the displayed string, stretching the raster lines of the square in y direction. I think this is a pretty neat and clever idea the programmers had here.
The plunger is, of course, also displayed too much to the right in ParaJVE, due to the same flaw.

Thanks to Helmut for organizing this event again, and congratulations to the winners!
I loved Wet Cat although, after a while of improving, i always died in the 500s. I did'nt really get into Vecdrift but i will give it a try again.
