No, it got abandoned due to Alex's concerns over IP infringment. All that's left is the early WIP material sitting in a certain someone's possession...

That's too bad. What is shown on the site looks really good.

My VeCaves is numbered in the late 60's and came with the overlay, so at least that many have them. It is strange how so few come up for sale, I think I've seen 1 in the last 6 years to about 4 Protector LE in the same timeframe.

This is only the fourth public VeCaves sale I am aware of since the game was released ten years ago, compared to 12-15 LE Protector sales I've seen. At the time, I was cursing a bit at CGE for missing the window that VeCaves was on sale (apparently the 20 copies went in about 15 minutes) but made up for it in the evening auction where Mark offered #2 for sale. Even though it cost me $100. Looking back at what it's worth now, $100 is nothing heh.
What I perceive the difference between VeCaves and Protector is quite simply, awareness. Alex Herbert advertised the game in a number of places in advance of selling it, we knew what we were getting, and placed pre-orders in advance. The fact that arguably it was the most accomplished and best Vectrex homebrew to that point added to matters. A few people probably thought they could turn a bit of profit selling it on shortly thereafter.
VeCaves by comparison flew under the radar somewhat. It's only many years later, with new collectors looking to get homebrews from the past, that the price has really shot up because so few people are willing to let their copies go today. Let me tell you, my mate who owned the VeCaves that went for over $1000 was astounded, even though I told him in advance it had the potential to go big, because I knew how few had been offered in the past.

Yeah, exactly. There are next to no videos of it anywhere, along with any reviews that I know of (unless ones have gone up that are long gone now, like the "double decker" Vectrex reviews).

Well, I can't claim to be totally innocent of that... *eyes complete G&W collection*
I just checked and the VecCaves I sold (with overlay and manual) was #70; it went to a collector to pretty much complete his collection.

Complete G&W collection sounds cool, would love to see pics. If I can work out how to put up video I'll grab some footage of VeCaves in action.

Different angle, but pertinent to this thread... someone has a bunch of Vectrex items on eBay currently, including a CIB 3D Imager and a number of homebrews, but this is the item that stands out... cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320935245921Yeah... wonder how much this will go for! Commence insanity...

More than $2000 for a boxed imager? One sold recently for $700 and had even more stuff that this one listed now. And I thought $700 was a lot!

Anybody know any of these sellers? Just wondering if they are collectors or someone buying and then trying to make a fast buck or two.
Not that anything is wrong with that. The Vectrex community already seems small. So I hate to see it get any smaller by someone leaving the gaming/collecting scene.
