1P
Star Trek - I can play this vector on and on. If pizza and drinks were delivered I would probably leave ont when it's time for a nap.
Aztarac - The overall funky feel plus it's an excellent shooter!
2P / 4P
Space Duel - Nothing compares to this title for cooperative (or uncooperative) two-player action. Just think if you and your wife were bound by a chain and had to survive in the cruel cold environment of a space shooter. Would you both make it? Or would one of you "accidentally" die first? You get the idea now. Even as a single-player game Space Duel was an excellent Asteroids clone/remake/descendant/evolution. Both were made by Atari.
Space Wars - Talk about another game made for parties! Line up a set of friends and have a tournament! So much smack was spoken during our games and that was part of the fun. Lots of options really gave this game some legs for its time. While okay as a single-player game, Space Wars really stands out on its own as a two-player game.
Eliminator - This would be at the top of my multi-player vector list if it weren't for one thing. It was hard to find back then. Even harder to find in working order. Otherwise the more players the better! As a 4P game I would put Eliminator up against any other 4P game of the day for all out fun.

Star Wars was gone from the drive-in last weekend. It had been replaced by a Terminator 2 machine. Ah man that sucks. The place I go to recently retired Asteroids Deluxe, which was their only vector game. ... Not sure I can vote for my own "favorite vector coin-op" because I have only ever played a small handful in real life cabinets or xy display. (Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Battlezone, Solar Quest, Space Wars and Tempest). Among those Asteroids is definitely my choice but otherwise I'd say War of the Worlds or Gravitar I think.

Heh I checked in here seeing the thread updated and I just quoted a two year old post mistaking it for current. .. 1PAztarac - The overall funky feel plus it's an excellent shooter! Interesting choice. I was very intrigued when I first saw pictures and descriptions of it. i think VectorX had said that he saw one recently at a show but didn't get a chance to play it. I think he said the dome window was not very effective, which was a disappointment to me. But if you have actually played it, maybe you can give full report? .. I really like when arcades use optical techniques, (mirrors, overlays, prisms, projections etc.), especially when it involves vector graphics.

^I thought the dome was fine, but couldn't really rank functionability since I couldn't play it (which you were right about that one, as someone had broken off the joystick. Sucked, as I still haven't played that game!). Space Wars - Talk about another game made for parties! Line up a set of friends and have a tournament! That's probably why it was a top 10 earner for five YEARS when it was released! Eliminator - This would be at the top of my multi-player vector list if it weren't for one thing. It was hard to find back then. Even harder to find in working order. Otherwise the more players the better! Yeah, I only saw one cab of that ever back in the day. I never played it since it was constantly busy. And after playing the Repulse clone on Vecmania years later I can see why!

1) Tempest (Although I admit I prefer Tempest 2000 on Atari Jaguar with spinner mod) 2) Star Wars (Who can forget playing the sit-down cabinet as a kid? Its still an incredible feeling as an adult) 3) Black Widow (Never played a real one though IMO almost as good a game as its inspiration Robotron. In fact, part of me likes it better than Roby) 4) Quantum (Fantastic game imo) 5) Asteroids (Almost goes without saying...)

I loved Armor Attack and Tempest. Lost many quarters to those games. However I have great fondness for Tail Gunner. It was the first upright I ever played I'll never forget that moment.

I liked a lot Armor Attack too But the Star Wars cabinet really shocked me; very inmersive machine, still today.

I second the vote for Star Wars, which I've finally played on real hardware now. And I was skeptical and reluctant because I try to avoid Star Wars related stuff as well as color vectors at this point. It does suffer from the same pixelation that every other color vector that i've seen does, but there are some really cool brightness effects that could only be done with xy monitor, plus the design and style of the game is just spectacular. The images, the zooming, the sound, the music, the scale of the game, the structure - it's so gratifying to look at.
One small touch that I really like is the game selection screen, when your guns are pointing in from various points around the perimeter of the screen and they move slightly with every little turn of the joysticks. I guess it does the same thing during the game but it's more noticeable in the static screens.
Empire Strikes Back is cool too but not as good as the first one.

Oh yeah, and what version did you play, the cockpit or standup?

I played standup. It is a star wars cabinet that also has empire strikes back in it and you can switch between the two games by pressing and holding a certain button combination.
