For me, it's a toss between the quick-paced, great shooter of Tempest, or the offbeat, more original Major Havoc.
Space War(s) also killed, due to having a lot of customization, which is still pretty much unheard of decades later as far as arcade games go.

My favorite by far is Major Havoc.
I recently picked up an original (i.e. circa early 1980s) Major Havoc Conversion Upright. A tempest was converted. The tempest documentation is still on the back door panel.
The side art is white with a MH decal centered.
I was told that the previous owner has owned it for the last 15 years and rarely played it.
A few years back, I was able to play a Quantum at the Houston Arcade Expo and I really enjoyed it.
I doubt I will find a Quantum anytime soon, but I am still on the look out.

My favorite by far is Major Havoc. Yep. Except for possibly some similar games on computers back then (I assume there was something sort of like it but I could be wrong), there wasn't much out there like it at all! I recently picked up an original (i.e. circa early 1980s) Major Havoc Conversion Upright. Yeah I saw where you had posted that, thinking it was funny that I was just about to e-mail the group and let them know about this place A tempest was converted. The tempest documentation is still on the back door panel. That's cool, especially since in case anyone needs some Tempest info from the back of the unit then you can provide that for them too! I was told that the previous owner has owned it for the last 15 years and rarely played it. Tsk tsk, what was with that guy?! A few years back, I was able to play a Quantum at the Houston Arcade Expo and I really enjoyed it. I doubt I will find a Quantum anytime soon, but I am still on the look out. Yeah good luck, it wasn't a real huge hit...

Played it in the arcade at a miniature golf place we used to go to in the 80's. I already had the Vectrex version, and just thought that it was another ported game to the Vec. Had no idea until many years later that it was ported from the Vectrex to the arcade

Yeah I had never seen it, although I had read back in the day that it was going to the arcades...I just thought it never came out or something I was really drooling when an Australian friend of mine sent me a link to some game expo somewhere a couple of years ago...man, they had a C. Chasm machine there! And here there was never a shortage of arcades here in Houston (until after the crash) and I never saw one anywhere!

I spent lots of time and quarters on Asteroids and Star Wars. Still play Star Wars just about every month at the local drive-in.

^Wow, amazing to hear of something like that at a place that's not a gaming expo or museum!

That is very nice to hear. We still have a drive-in nearby but I think they get alot of Amish business so there may not be much demand for arcade games there.
