Hi all!
I am working on an article of the top 10 homebrew games for the Vectrex. There are a lot of good games, so selecting 10 was not easy. In any case, as part of the article I am writing an intro speaking about the Vectrex and the story behind homebrews for the system. Since I want to be sure to include accurate information, I figured this would be the place to ask for resources that I can read that can give me a background of the system and the homebrew scene. Any recommendations? Thanks!

John D's Classic Game Creation site has a little of his background.

John D's Classic Game Creation site has a little of his background. Thanks! I'll check on that.

There's some of FURY's background on that interview he did recently: www.rfgeneration.com/news/vectrex/Vectrex-Interview-Series-2-George-Pelonis-2290.phpAlso another interview with him, Dondzila, Kristof Tuts, Chris Salomon, and I would say Ronen Habot at Good Deal Games, but probably the latter's Vaboom!/Vectrace isn't on your top 10 I assume those are accurate. I'd say the Ville Krumlinde page on the Vectrex wiki is accurate, since I sent him the page content and he went over it before it went up, but if Thrust isn't in your top 10 then that wouldn't matter.

If you have access to the Vectrex interviews from the Retro Survival CD (published in 2005), then that's a good source of some info too... I'll see if I can get those out for you considering it's seven years ago I interviewed a bunch of programmers for the piece!

I would really appreciate it if you can get those for me!

I've found the original, unedited text file I had before putting together the HTML version. PM me with an email address and I'll send it to you...

Heh so what are the top 10 games on your list? (Title to this thread was a bit misleading.) Or shall we wait for your article to find out?
Mandatory inclusions in my opinion are: I,Cyborg Protector Gravitrex
Some titles that I think many would recommend are games that I don't have access to yet. Do you feel that you've been able to make comprehensive selections?
Looking forward to your article and possibly learning some more history on Vectrex homebrew!

Like I said, choosing was not easy. I've done the same thing for the INTV. I have pretty much most homebrews, so playing them is not a problem. I'm sure not everyone will agree with all my 10 selections just because that's the way of things. The goal is to publish the article in a new retro magazine.

A new one, eh? Can you tell us anything about that?
I was also thinking the same thing Glip was, so here's mine (not necessarily in order):
1. Gravitrex 2. Nebula Commander 3. Protector 4. Royal 21 5. Birds of Prey 6. I, Cyborg 7. Moon Lander 8. V-Frogger 9. Thrust 10. Repulse
Keep in mind, these are just the top 10 from all the ones I've played, as I don't have/haven't played Vector Pilot, for instance.

I can't give any details as of yet. Sorry. My list will not be in any particular order either. I'm probably just going to alphabetize them! LOL

Well, I just finished writing the article today. I tried to summarize the life of the Vectrex as best I could and did a little history of the homebrew scene as well. I could only do it in 700 words, so it is far from being complete. I submitted it for review today along with the 10 games I chose. I'll let you know more when things get closer to publication.

Thanks for the update. 700 words would be totally impossible for myself!
