Whilst i try and get some stuff sorted out to finish off NOX (packaging, cart cases, etc) I started another little project. Very much a work in progress but I thought you may like a little look. Introducing STRAMASH ZONE: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfhu5A7X57AIt's just a perspective engine so far, no game as such but I've got the rest worked out in my head and what you see here represents a kind of worse case scenario with the maximum amount of stuff on the screen. It's pretty choppy - about the same as Romel's Revenge on a zx spectrum and I used to love that game, so i think it'll be playable. If i can get it working i may do a super stripped down version ( Chris suggested calling it triangle zone :-) ) along side it with simplified graphics for more speed. Whether we'll have radars and mountains or not will just depend on how well it all performs. edit: OH some of the choppiness is down to the video capture..most isn't

not really related but: Chris Tumbler's unfinished Battle Zone (code name Zattle Bone) was also suppose to have networked play (LAN over joystick port) as well if I recall correctly.

Well, marblemad, you have gotten us all very excited.
... Is it too late to consider DUAL STICK CONTROLS? Perhaps utilizing two Vectrex controllers at the same time.

I'm not that good at coms but if someone gave me some clues, I'd definitely give retrofitting it a go once the game is done. If it ever gets done. Any more info on Seattle bone out there?

Battlezone on the Vectrex would be really cool. And with Dual stick support and optional one-on-one fight on two Vectrexes would be brilliant. Thanks for sharing this first and exciting impression, marblemad!

That is... amazing. Holy sh*t! Yes, please make that. I'm all for the dual-stick option, too. But for sure, a box and a green/red overlay to go with that masterpiece. And, right after that? Red Baron!!!! Sorry, lost control there for a second but I own a Red Baron arcade game, a very underrated game.

Well, marblemad, you have gotten us all very excited. ... Is it too late to consider DUAL STICK CONTROLS? Perhaps utilizing two Vectrex controllers at the same time. Oh I'll most definitely do that. Excellent. ... I have a comment on this, and a suggestion or two. NOT based on any special technical knowledge I have, but more of a DESIGN issue, how you might do the controls for your game IN ANTICIPATION OF OTHER PEOPLE SUPPORTING A NEW DUAL STICK CONTROLLER AND OTHER DUAL STICK GAMES, and for your game to also be compatible with this future dual stick controller. (We have discussed this here before and I know there is interest) ... Basically the idea is that there is excitement specifically for dual stick controls, and your game would be the first game to utilize them. Since you are the first one, there is no existing dual stick controller to use with your game, so you would presumably be making your game to work by using two Vectrex controllers. When (if) someone decides to make a consolidated dual stick controller, they can design it to have two plugs, and for each stick to correspond to the original player 1 and player 2 Vectrex analog sticks, (so it works with your game). ... But presumably this consolidated controller would have FEWER THAN 8 BUTTONS. So my suggestion is that you keep that in mind when you decide how to map the buttons. Either have a pretty open ended button mapping selection option, or map the buttons in an "overlapping" way - for example, press ANY button to start the game, and have numerous buttons on each controller that do the same thing, so that the game will be simultaneously comfortable to play on two GCE controllers but also able to be played on a consolidated controller that maybe completely lacks "player 2" buttons. Just a suggestion, in case you hadn't considered these issues. Perhaps you already have a better idea of how to make it compatible with a future dual stick controller of a different design than what I described. Good luck in your continued work!
