Hi guys, I've recently bought a Vectrex system that has got problem with it's sound. It appears to only be playing sound from one channel. I've got some video footage for you to see...
Sent from my iPhone
I've not opened the back up yet, I'm guessing that it's the actual sound chip that is causing the problem. Have any of you guys else ever had the same problem?
Cheers

When I attempted to play the clip a message 'This video is private' comes up. Careful if you take the back off. Electrocution, plague, pestilence and death are likely. Well, electrocution at least. Just be careful.

Yeah I've read that. Would leaving the system un-plugged for a few days make any difference or do they hold a charge for a lot longer? Anyway, here is that link again. Hopefully it will work this time: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yo-wdym9JEDo you know of anywhere in the uk that repairs them at all?

Would leaving the system un-plugged for a few days make any difference or do they hold a charge for a lot longer? Supposedly a lot longer: they're not like tv sets of nowadays where leaving them unplugged for 48 hours usually discharges them, supposedly it takes MONTHS for a Vectrex to discharge. Don't know if that's true or not though. Do you know of anywhere in the uk that repairs them at all? Supposedly a tv repair shop will do it since Vectrexes have many of the same off the shelf components as a tv does. Might want to wait until vectrexmad gets here and sees this thread first though.

The only problem with repair shops that can work on crt tv's is finding one in the first place. With all these (relatively) cheap flatscreen jobbies being sold by the multiples there's no market for good ol' fashioned repair shops. Tele broke? Bin it and buy another...

Yeah I know what you mean, I've been looking for a good old tv repair shop in my area but to be honest I'm not sure if there is one around here.
Anyway, I've been chatting to Vectrexmad who said that he had a similar problem with a Vectrex that he owned some time back. He was able to swap the sound chip with a replacement. So I'm hoping that I will be able to do the same...

Thanks guys. Now I can start collecting some games. I've already got Hyperchase (minus the overlay) and I've just bought Scramble on eBay.

Are you a collector or just want to play on the little machine? If you are a collector than by all means by the games individually. But if you want to play different games I recommend you purchase the VecMulti. With that, providing you have a PC and an SD card writer (costs less than £5), you can download the entire Vectrex library and play on your Vectrex. Then afterwards if you so wished you can purchase the overlays, or buy the entire game (game, box and overlay) See the link www.vectrex.bizAlso purchase Vector Pilot, Protector and Gravitrex Plus.

Well I doubt if I'll ever get the complete collection so I probably will pick up a multi cart of some sort. I didn't think that the lack of overlays would bother me but I've got to admit I prefer the games with them.
Only trouble is the lack of funds at the moment. I'm getting married next Monday so it's an expensive time at the moment.

Should have put Fury Unlimited, CGC, and Revival Studios down for your wedding registry.
