...he's a retro games collector too. We like to call each other and brag about recent finds - it's all in good fun, we motivate each other to find goodies. Anyway, he just called me as he was leaving a Vancouver, WA area Goodwill, sounding quite excited. He was digging through a box of cell phone cords, AV cables and random knick-knacks that are common in Goodwills. At the bottom, he spied what looked to be a black sharpie with no cap. When he saw the twirly cord coming out of the back, his heart stopped. A Vectrex lightpen at a Goodwill? This has to be too good to be true. Apparently, when he pulled it up from the depths of the box, a man nearby cursed quite loudly. My friend literally darted towards the register with his treasure, looking at the green price tag as he went. The price? One dollar and ninety-nine cents. ONE DOLLAR AND NINETY-NINE CENTS When he got up to the register, the nice woman informed him that today, green tag items are half-off. So my buddy just called to tell me he got a Vectrex lightpen at Goodwill for $1. why don't I find things like this...

Hey, you've got that Vectrex distributor case!! Well, to the best of your knowledge. (No, I'd guess it's legit...)
That's crazy to think that not only he got that, but apparently the *other* guy knew what it was? Wow...

I do it's the crown jewel of my collection. I didn't, however, pay almost nothing for it. Let's just say I paid a lot of euros, and euros are not cheap for an American. I've had a couple well-informed people look at it in person, and nobody has questioned it's authenticity. I'm glad the item was discovered and documented! My friend didn't talk to the guy, so it could have been that he stubbed his toe or something. However, the Pacific Northwest is full of retro gaming stuff and overpopulated with collectors. I've come toe-to-toe over items (albeit more common) on many occasions. Set down the Saturn, watch it get snatched, sort of things.

I didn't, however, pay almost nothing for it. Yeah, a bit of difference there! Let's just say I paid a lot of euros, and euros are not cheap for an American. Yeah that's the way it is with ordering the overseas homebrews (Vectrexians) but they're usually worth it! This is a totally different bag though (i. e. the size and weight of it), since shipping costs so damn much now too! My friend didn't talk to the guy, so it could have been that he stubbed his toe or something. Good point. I was at a gaming expo a few years ago, got blown up at some point in a game I was playing, said a curseword, then like a second later a guy a couple machines down said the exact same thing But we had something in common there though...
