In considering the boxed version of Mail Plane, it can stick to an older classic format or be updated to make it a more unique release. What are your thoughts and votes (see poll) on the topics?

I voted for the old style case, but left the board vote blank, as that one doesn't really matter to me one way or the other. Either way is fine with that one to me.

I voted BLUE and Old Style. Eprom just seems more legit than Flash to me. Have there been other Vectrex releases on Flash boards? I think all of the ones I have that I have looked inside are Eprom.
I voted for blue cart style just because I like to encourage experimentation and new packaging. It is also cool when homebrewers very closely emulate the original packaging and presentation. But I prefer to see new stuff.
Thanks for asking opinions and polling. Really cool that you are getting all this together.

I used "Flash" as a talking point for people to wrap their head around. I really mean EEPROM. Flash is just a type of EEPROM. In the end it really does not matter except for visual appeal. I probably should have said "do you prefer 24/28 PIN DIP package appearance, or modern SMD appearance?". However, if the boards go inside a black cart case then appearance is a moot point for visual style impact for most people. Most people will never disassemble their carts to look. (Perhaps a custom security seal for the cart? heh. heh) Yes, there have been several releases using electrically programmable memory instead of EPROM/PROM chips. Perhaps this point of discussion can now be added to Vectrex cartridge property descriptions on every web site? :-)

Mail Plane is an original GCE title which should have an original cartridge case in black. I don't care for the inner board because it's not visible. I don't mind colour experiments with new homebrew games, though.

Like some of the others, what I can see I prefer to look like the originals as this is an original game, albeit one that didn't quite get released.
The innards can be whatever is cheapest/easiest/most plentiful.

I'd like to see blue cart cases but not for this game. Personally, I'd like to see it so close to the original design in so many ways that you cannot tell that it was released 30 years later. This would mean original box design, original manual design and possibly vacuform inserts. Cost would of course play into it but I think people will be willing to pay for the added cost.

For me an "authentic GCE style box" would mostly be a lifelong obligation to preserve. It would just sit in a cabinet somewhere, separate from the game. Frequent use of these boxes results in damage, unless you are very careful. And being careful is not fun.
Just seems strange to me to emulate a package that was not designed to be collectible, ... and to do it for the sake of collectors. It's not functional.
If GCE released "Collectors Editions" in hard cases, we would be going nuts for them on ebay 30 years later. Why not do "what could have been", rather than what was?
I know this is a losing argument, in this case. I agree it would be cool to see this item disguised as the genuine article. .. But for me it's overboard and not worth it. If I received such an item in 1983, I certainly would have torn it to pieces immediately, to get to the game inside.

And some of us would not. Even from a young age, I tried to look after my games, not because I had any idea they would be worth something in the future, but because that's how I was. Looking after stuff increased its life span, that's how I saw it heh.
Marc Oberhauser's boxes are high quality, and I've already suggested to Chris that he could be a possibility to produce them. Marc has never done a Vectrex box though, he's Atari mostly with some Coleco. But the principle would be the same, even if the box is larger...
