Does anybody know any good 2 player SIMULTANEOUS games for the original game boy (link cable port)? I found a list for multi player: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_multiplayer_Game_Boy_games.. However most of these are not simultaneous and i cant tell which is which, besides the fighting games, which is not really what i'm looking for. Racing is generally not my thing either. Not sports either, unless it is a really special and out of the ordinary take on one of these genres. ... Ok might as well say i'm looking for ACTION, ADVENtURE, SHOOTER or STRATEGY. .. I'm trying to link two super famicoms and two super game boy 2's on two tv's, and looking for a fun game(s) to do that with. .. I consider Vectrex RIP-OFF a top notch two player co-op among older consoles. Looking for something on Game Boy that can rival that. Not necessarily cooperative play, but something that is very integrally 2 player in design. Does such a game exist? ( please do N O T say Pokemon )

I wish I could offer more help. My brother and I each owned a Game Boy along with a link cable in the '90s, but I can't remember many games within the genres you listed offering two-player simultaneous gameplay. If I remember correctly, most of the link cable games tried to emphasize the versus modes. Tetris has one of the most popular two-player modes, a head-to-head race for the high score. My brother and I used to play WWF Superstars in link mode, but unless you're a fan of early '90s pro wrestling, you may not find it appealing.
As you said, almost all of the fighting games offer a two-player versus mode. I've played several of them and would advise you to stay away from Mortal Kombat, although the sequel is fine. Pokemon wouldn't be a prime choice because you cannot initiate two-player battles right off the bat. So, out of the games on that list, I think Double Dragon II would be worth a try (as I think the first one was two-player alternating) and maybe the shooter Pop'n TwinBee.

Thanks for the suggestions wyldephang. It does look like both of those are 2 player simultaneous. Pop'n Twinbee looks rare, but I just ordered 2x DD2 for not too much money. Also ordered a 2nd copy of Burai Fighter Deluxe eventhough I can't find any information about the "VS" mode, it's one of my favorites.

I hadn't considered the price or rarity of the games before I made the suggestions. But I'm glad to help. You'd think the Game Boy library would have been primed and ready for more co-op shooters and beat-'em-ups, but most of the two-player selections are either fighting or puzzle games. I wonder if hardware restrictions factored into that decision.

Well, still waiting on my Super Game Boy 2's to arrive from Japan. But I have tried a couple on actual Game Boys so far, although only by myself. -Double Dragon 2 does not seem like a great game overall, but it is indeed legitimately 2 player simultaneous, and the only game of its kind that is so, that I have found so far. -Tetris is simultaneous, head to head, but it's not a very integrated experience. You're only really aware of the other player after you win or lose the match. -Still waiting on a second copy of Burai Fighter Deluxe, (the first "second copy" that I ordered turned out to be a Japanese copy, which does not have the 2-player vs game), but I was able to find out how the 2 player game works, which is basically an ALTERNATING speed game. -SPY VS SPY, looks like it will be good so I have ordered 2 copies. I've played the NES version and it is good, so have high hopes for this one. This game involves 2 players (Spies) playing against each other, both navigating the same area (an array of rooms) and setting traps. -Final Reverse, is a pretty obscure (but attainable) Japan only release, that I have read mixed reviews on. It is a versus shooter. .. Have decided to hold off on this one for the time being. I might buy one copy if I find out that I can also buy a Game Boy flash cart some time soon. Still on the agenda: Mole Mania, Marble Madness, Motocross Maniacs and Qix (I seriously doubt this one is simultaneous but I've been totally addicted to it lately, so will probably grab a second copy to try anyway).

I played Spy vs. Spy on the NES when I was younger. I remember it being chaotic and fun, almost like Bomberman in how you needed to lure players into your traps.
It's unfortunate that Burai Fighter Deluxe was not what you'd hope it'd be. There really should have been a better selection of co-op games on the Game Boy. The console was in production for an entire decade, so there's no excuse for such a lack of two-player options.

Is Spy vs. Spy any relation to the game on the Commodore 64? I played that on a friend's computer down the street back in the day.

... Well Game boy Spy vs Spy is not quite the same as the NES version i remember and also not nearly as good. It's the same basic concept but it takes place outdoors rather than in rooms and there is no graphic indication of the items you find, (as far as i can tell), so you really just go around opening everysingle box until the score key indicates that you have the items.
Burai fighter versus game acually IS simultaneous play, but it is not interactive at all. Basically you both seperately play through the same level until one of you dies, then the other person is proclaimed the winner.
Qix actually does have 2 player simultanious! You both see the same live image and you alternate drawing your boxes. First to 50% (or whatever goal you set the game to) wins.

Gah! I finally got the Super Game Boy 2's in the mail only to discover that they use a different link port than my DMG Game Boys.
They are compatible but I need to get an adapter. It's the same as that used with Game Boy Colors and Pockets. So to hook to eachother I just need that cable which I don't have and to link to DMG Game Boy I need the adapter.

I got two copies of Mole Mania recently. The one player game is quite awesome but the two player is kind of boring.
.. So the only Game Boy games I really recommend for two player are QIX and MARBLE MADNESS.
