Last night some friends visited and we played both Vectrex and Dreamcast, with most of the time spent with Vectrex. My friends had never played it before, but when I saw a father and son enjoying the system at the same time I couldn't help but take photos. Most didn't turn out, but this one did. It was fun to see multiple generations enjoying the Vectrex together. Proof that the Vectrex isn't just for us "retro gaming nerds."

Cool! Which one of them got the high score? I was surprised that both were pretty equally matched. Initially the dad did better, but his son picked up quickly. Their scores increased with every game. It was great fun to watch. They also tried my Madtronix 3D imager and loved it, especially with Narrow Escape

Nice setup with - let me see, I count - 1, 2, 3 Vectrexes and a red curtain in the background. The two people playing remind me that it would be very cool to have a game that can be played using a link cable.
Yes, it's cool to see the young generation fascinated by the Vectrex. In November we had a party at home. In the hobby room the children saw the Vectrex on the display stand and wanted to know what this is. Finally they talked me into setting up the Vectrex for playing. We placed it on the table and turned it on. I said: "And now comes the colour!". They all looked at me and wondered. I presented and inserted the colour overlay and they all were really surprised . We played several rounds of Space Wars and the children really enjoyed it. :-)

It was great fun to watch. I have a similar story to share about that. My older cousin is in his forties, and he has three kids in their teens. My cousin spent a lot of time in the arcades in the '80s and developed a fondness for Time Pilot especially. A couple years ago, he picked up this all-in-one arcade machine with a lot of the classic preloaded onto it. Time Pilot happened to be one of the games on the list, so it wasn't long before he achieved an awesome score. Not more than a week later, his youngest son conquered his high score! So, my cousin went back to work on reclaiming his title, and achieved an even more ridiculous score. I'm not sure of the exact number, but it stands to this day. It's nice to see the retro gamers step up to the plate and show the young'ns what they're made of.

Nice setup with - let me see, I count - 1, 2, 3 Vectrexes and a red curtain in the background. Thank you, however it's not quite as nice as you give credit for. The center item (mostly blocked in the photo) is a 13" CRT for playing those "other" raster systems. I have a 3rd Vecrex but it is need of repair and waiting for me to get around to giving it the attention needed. Alas... one day... The two people playing remind me that it would be very cool to have a game that can be played using a link cable. That would be amazing. Of course, we would need equally amazing homebrew to take advantage of such developments Yes, it's cool to see the young generation fascinated by the Vectrex. In November we had a party at home. I've actually introduced the Vectrex to many, both old and young, and everyone loves it. I simply never thought to take a photo before now We played several rounds of Space Wars and the children really enjoyed it. :-) Space Wars has always fascinated me but never been a personal favorite. It was cool to see my friends enjoying it far more than I have. They really liked Star Trek, even the young man who had obviously never seen it in arcades and is used to more modern first person shooters.

Sure, but the Vectrex game is still similar enough to bring back fond memories of the arcade version. You know, happy warm fuzzies for old farts like myself. The Vectrex game is different, but I think better. Minus the voice samples, of course, because that would be so amazing, but the Vectrex game is still excellent nonetheless.

Maybe one year everything will line up [edit] And there can be no greater pleasure than having Spock's congratulations. Well done, sir. You can repeat those words to yourself forever, for every noteworthy event, and make that day just a little bit better. Installed a cable, think of Spock's words. Dealt with life's crap successfully, think of Spock's words. Every day is a little more awesome with Spock pumping you up [/edit]

Nice! For years I've wanted to go to various events. Maybe one year everything will line up I feel your pain, as I missed the last two expos myself. Yeah I know, not the same as going to them in the first place, and yes, hopefully you'll go to at least one at some point! And there can be no greater pleasure than having Spock's congratulations. Great photo. I had to laugh at the red curtain. Made me think of the Wizard of OZ. Maybe the Wizard had a Vectrex behind his curtain. Thanks.
