.. Last week i built a prototype for a Web Wars arcade cabinet, which is just a Vectrex packaged like a cabaret style arcade, with a fresnel lens to magnify the display. .. I just built a wood frame basically to test if the design will work and to see how big it is and if it is a pleasing enough looking object to justify building. .. I'll post pics if I go any further with it. Are you using a fresnel lens like this video? Fresnel lens and solar energy (I´m afraid it´s spanish, but you can see interesting uses: 7:30 stirling motor actuated with the solar energy from a fresnel lens) The kind of lens used in some 80´s tabletop, but much larger, I guess. I hope it being working well (I never saw the effect of such lens over a vectrex screen)

I hope it being working well (I never saw the effect of such lens over a vectrex screen) I am using one intended for magnifying text. It is about 9" x 12", which is bigger than most reading lenses. Made of sturdy plastic, maybe 1/4" thick: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE6noZIMmNYMy fresnel has gotten a bit dirty smudged and a scratch or two. But i bought it retail from a website that is still in business, so i can just buy another when it's time. .. The only thing about this one that keeps it from being perfect for this application is that the corners are cut off for some reason.

Yeah i consider it a viable display system. Only thing is that it really adds up to an excessive length if Vectrex, fresnel and the person's eyes are all positioned for optimal magnification. I wanted it to line up in such a way that an average adult would be bent over a bit and looking down, and also a child or short person could play comfortably standing straight. .. But in my model i pretty much stand straight up to play, (I'm 5' 10"). .. I really like the Asteroids and Battlezone cabaret cabinets, but don't expect to ever own one, so this project aims to kill two birds, putting together a caberet cabinet and a Web Wars in one. The Asteroids one is particularly straight forward in design, and I think it looks great: www.retrokade.com/sales/cabs/asteroids-cabaret/ast-cb-01.JPG

I've never seen that Asteroids cab before! What really? I'm sure I've mentioned it before. Asteroids, Battlezone and Asteroids Deluxe all got similar cabaret designs, with the wood veneer on the sides.

Nope, never seen it. Saw/played a Tempest like that though, but Asteroids I only saw the stand-up version of.

I've played on cabaret versions of Asteroids, Battlezone and Tempest. Quite interesting forms for the games. Pretty certain there's a Missile Command in that form too.
