I'm happy to announce this year's Vector War! Actually it was Tony (or to be precise Len and Moyu) who reminded me that Vector War is ahead.
New ranking system During the past years the average percentage of a player's six best games was taken to determine the overall rank. The percentage was clear and comparatively simple but had some disadvantages. This year you will get points for your ranks and points of your six best ranks will be added and sum up to your player points.
Personally, I'm not very familiar with scoring and ranking "system" so this is a bit of a terra incognita. If you have suggestions for improvement please post them here or send me a PM.
Game list A first version of the game list is set - please see in initial post. If you have suggestions and/or want changes you can post this, here. Please give a reason why you want a game in or out. Game list will be finalized and frozen on 1st October.
As written above the Vector War is both for beginner and expert players. If you like the Vectrex and playing its games then do not hesitate to join in on 26th October. The more players the more fun. I look much forward to seeing old and new players in Vector War IX!

Yay! Not using % scoring.
2048 game gets my vote, as it's one I'm quite good at :-)
With all the attention the Vectrex seems to be getting these days, I wonder if the number of competitors will rise?

Yay! Not using % scoring. Good that a new scoring has its fans. I don't remember: Did you you suggest to change it? 2048 game gets my vote, as it's one I'm quite good at :-) Good idea. Thomas' other games like Robot Arena are on my list but they are no real option until they are available to more people. Completely forgot about 2048 which is free for download. So this might be a good choice. With all the attention the Vectrex seems to be getting these days, I wonder if the number of competitors will rise? Some months ago the Vectrex group "Vectrex Fans Unite" reached more than 3.000 members but the number of really active members and players still is comparatively low, I think. If we will reach 20 players I'd be quite content. Let's see.

Wow, all the flaws of the former scoring system with precentages and pros of a new scoring system in one post! Thank you, D-Type! I'll have a closer look and might change the scoring to the formula you suggested to avoid draws for specific ranking combinations. EDIT: Just had a look at your EPC website and realized that you're the expert in organizing tournaments! Really impressive, D-Type!

Thanks. It took a few years of nailbiting experience before we attempted to host the European Pinball Championship.
100s of competitors flying in from Europe and beyond to play in your tournament over 3 days...if the tournament system goes wrong or the timing of the event wasn't forecast correctly, you've got a big mess on your hands. One year our main PC hard drive died partway through the event. Luckily we were backing up the database and logs across two servers and were able to continue, pretty much seamlessly, but very scary, though!
Last tournament I was actively involved in setting up the scoring for was the Dutch Pinball Open a few years back. Since then several web-based systems have become available, which helps a lot now.

Great that you are going to organize another Vector War Helmut. Regarding the games list I found out about an exploit in the game Blitz! It lets you run to the 20 yard line after kickoff (or whatever you call it). There are Videos on YT. It should be specified whether it is allowed to usw. that exploit or not.

No, exploits are not allowable, such as one on Armor Attack and the high scoring Berzerk glitch as well (although the latter's pretty obvious!). It just has to be "regular" play.

D-Type: Your the second "Pinball person" I know. Years ago I met Albert M. and we discussed various things and I learnt how mighty, active, and experienced the Pinball scene is. Most likely I'll send you a PM to discuss more details on the scoring. fmml : Good to read from another Vector War veteran. During the past months it has been pretty quiet here in the Vector gaming forum but it's good to see that people are still around as soon as something is going on. Regarding the Blitz! cheat: I just can repeat VectorX's words: Cheats are not allowed in the Vector War. No one can check but it's a matter of fair play. Regarding Veccy Bird, my highscore is 2. O.k.. At least one game I'll score better than you.

With excellent info of D-Type I got the new scoring/ranking system implemented. Scoring/ranking will no longer base on percentage per game but on rank per game. See section "Game rules" in the initial posts for more info.

In total it's suposed to be 12 games - 6 original games and 6 homebrew games. I realized that with 2048 there's one homebrew game too much, now:
1. Color Clash 2. Release 3. Stramash Zone 4. Vec-Man 5. Veccy Bird 6. Vector Patrol 7. 2048
Stramash Zone, Release, and Vector Pilot were played in the last Vector War and one of them will be removed from the game list. I'd suggest Vector Patrol (it will be added in a later Vector War, again.)

Like last year Tony ( fruktodlaren ) donated a prize for this years Vector War: An aluminum Vectrex cartridge shell. This very special cartridge shell has been crafted by Tony. For holding the cartridge Tony used plastic to avoid a shortcircuit. All hand made in Sweden. Photos have been taken before anodization; if I understand right the end product will have an even smoother and shinier surface.
Thank you very much, Tony, for donating this beautiful prize!

The aluminium cart shell will be anodized black. It will look a little more like a plastic shell then, but I think black anodization looks very classy, so I went for that. All mounting posts as well as the front with the slot for the PCB will be plastic inserts, to avoid the risk of a shortcircuit against the shell. Unless there is a major outcry against having the shell anodized black, it will be sent to the anodizer very soon. /Tony
