-> Playvectrex for the Mine Storm I with level select that you posted in the other Vector War thread. Anyway it's strange on European Vectrex machines, that some levels with the stardust mines are working, and sometimes something happens that slow down the Vectrex very much and strange beep sounds appear... Anyway good to have a level select now to experiment when what happens on the European machine. It had a level select? I better go and take a look at it then and give it a go. -> And also to all homebrew coders for their great games, and all donators of the prices... I think I speak for all who donated prizes when I say: No problem. I COULD contribute, so it was a given that I did. It's Helmut that is carrying the big load here being the sole organizer.

I vote for letting VectorWolf qualify. She deserves it, big time. Also, since children are immune to winning the wooden spoon prize that does not change any results other than letting her be on the final results list. Go go VectorWolf! You can do it! Woot woot woot! Only a few hours left. Me, Moyu and Len believe in you and we are all cheering for you.

Let me also join in thanking all organizers, contributors, players, spectators and supporters!
This competition was great fun, and I will definitely participate again next year, no matter how much time I will effectively find for playing. And who knows, maybe my kids will then also join, and we have even more younger players. I really liked how all the young ones were playing last year and this year. This whole event is a great motivation to keep on home-brewing and school-brewing! Many Cheers to everyone, Peer

Thank you so much to everyone was involved in this event. Not many in person game events this year so I really looked forward to this. I'm a little disappointed I missed the first day or 2 of competition and didn't have a chance to compete on the last day but had a blast trying to get the best scores I could against some of the best vectrex players around. Always able to achieve a new appreciation or disdain for the games featured in the tournament. Here's my roundup.
Fortress of narzod:
This is definitely one of if not the best of the original vectrex games and even holds its own against the excellent vectrex homebrew. Great 3d perspective with scaling, inventive rebound physically, and the well done perspective where you can't see an enemy hidden behind walls combine to make a surprisingly tactical one button shooter. The birds are both the devil and a godsend with their shields and perfect aim.
Bedlam: lives up to the name. Hard to keep up.
Minestorm II: I appreciate the fixed for vecmulti version that was made available. Got my personal best in the game.
Tour de France: frustrating game but possibly the best vectrex racing game. I can Definitely see room for improvement in my times. Pole position is a more polished experience but I feel like I hit a wall with getting a higher score.
Beluga dreams: I wish I was better at this but excellent flappy bird clone with interesting power ups. The physical cart sounds worthwhile with its bonus minigames
Every day is halloween: the competition version is tougher with its lack of extra lives but such a great Halloween game. I'm glad I suggested it. The enemies are well done and and a fun game overall. I'll get better scores in the future.
Spidex:
Tough playing single stick but intense dual stick shooter. Scoring opens up in later levels.
Vectrexians:
I have to admit that it's tedious to waiting for enemies to dive at you to get the best scored. It's the first vectrex game from the creator and it shows. No persistent storage so you have to keep calibrating. Still a fun and well done arcade conversion. Even with an imperfect overlay it's become my go to overlay for Vectrex game sessions.
Vectorblade: I won the prototype in a previous vector war and am very pleased with how the final product turned out. Awaiting the packrat release but appreciate the vector war version. The light actually is cooler than I thought at first depending on the surface. As for the game it might be the first vectrex game with achievements and persistent storage that actually affects gameplay.
Again thank you to all the people competitors, Helmut for organizing and running, and everyone who donated a prize.

Thank you Helmet and to all players who participated. Vector Wars continues to grow in participates year after year and I'm very pleased to see that! As all of you know - there is craziness here in the USA right now and this gave me time to step away from thinking about all of that and instead enjoy these glorious games! Congratulations to Chainsaw on his Bedlam score. When I saw that you beat my score - I played a few games to see if I could reclaim the top score but my hands just couldn't keep up anymore - that games gets me fatigued! Congratulations to Limitzer on his Tour De France score. I remember getting sub 1 minute times on that game during a previous vector wars. I understand the time and patience required to achieve that score - its tough! I decided not to play that game this time around because I knew the time needed to get back in the groove would be been too much for me. Special Thanks to the Beluga Whale in Beluga Dreams. At first the Whale and I did not get along and I was very frustrated . Then I played again and focused on the whale's nose as I played and 'took in' the dream music. This put me in a meditative state where I was able to achieve my high score. I just stared at the whale's nose - not the score. Of course as soon as I saw the score I lost my focus and the whale died! RIP Beluga Whale. Bedlam: I had luck, that in two cases a lot of indestructable enemies were spawn in the same "lane" (from the same direction) very early and I fired and fired on them like a berserk, and I always waited as long as possible to shot the other enemy that was spawn every time in another lane. Also the slow downs (with 6 lifes and more) seems depending of the level, type and quantitiy of the enemies... "Or I could say: I had a lot of luck and several good situations to reach this Bedlam result. The other thing is, that I never beated level 6 this year. In the past, I got 2 or 3 times to level 7 that is more crazy than level 6. I'm wondering if ever anybody beat level 7 and if there are more levels? Also congratulation to your other scores, special Polar Rescue and Beluga Dreams. Somehow I like Beluga Dreams very much, but I couldn't come into the "meditative state" (somebody else beside you wrote about this). I will try this again. Tour De France: I think under 1 minute is only possible without any crash to other bicycles or to the roadside. This needs also a lot of luck and shifting the gears down and up to slow down and speed up, and for me the most difficult thing is always to get one time the bottle at the roadside. With my 00:58 I slowed down several times to avoid crashes, so maybe better times are still possible?! I'm wondering, how often the button 4 of all controllers were used / pressed (from all players) during this Vector War. How often do we already fire in one game? One of my controllers is still the old one of my childhood, and I used it often, seems the controllers are very very durable and robust. (When I think, that I needed all 2-3 years a new Play Station 3 or 4 controller, or had to repair one of the L2 / R2 buttons etc. even if these controllers are also durable.) What was written in one of the German Vectrex advertisements? VECTREX, WHAT ELSE? :-)

But as you said: The technics used in the game are great. TdF: I like Hyper Chase a little bit more, even there you need more luck to survice some situations. In TdF you can handle the bicyble much better, than the car in Hyper Chase. Anyway, I like them both, also Pole Position is great. Yeah I also will continue playing Every day is halloween, but then the normal version, because in the VWX version you cannot get an extra life. Never played the normal version before... I always lost my last life during Vector War in the level, where the broom witch is the end boss (not sure 16th or 17th October). In the faster levels, the witch reminds me at the Narzod birds a little bit, because so also shoots directly to the player... Sorry my big texts :-)

This year, in this crazy times, the tournament helped to focus on the normal things to do: playing 40 year old vector games. You can't get a better-worded phrase for not only this forum, but that should be the unofficial motto for this site for the year too And as per usual, for those that hasn't done it yet, make sure to--as the saying goes--tip your bartender by giving Helmut a karma point for his work in organizing this for not only yet another year, but for an incredible 10 years now. Hard to believe that it was rescued and still continuing on, even several years after Retrocade Magazine folded, which is where all of this started. (How many other of those contests were continued afterwards? NONE, I'm sure!)

This was my first year finally having and making the time to enter this very excellent tournament being a Vectrex fan and collector since the late Fall of 2016. I was very happy to finally manage the time to participate amongst so many immensely stellar players this year for the very first time! It's shows how much everyone truly loves this console and will put in the endless hours and dedicated time to the master these games. It's very inspirational to me and only motivates me more to play these games more now and be more ready for next years battle! I wanted to give a big thanks to Helmut and friends for putting this together and honored to give away one our very Vectrex Fans Unite Edge lights this year to one of the winners.
So here's to next year's event and Congrats to all upcoming Winners!

I have the Vectrex32 and the wooden spoon already packed in bomb proof packages, waiting to be sent to the winners. If none was offended by the wooden spoon prize I can easily make one for next year too. IKEA has them in large quantities.

Apparently, I won the wooden spoon. I'd like to see the Booby Prize be a different wooden item every year.
I always try to qualify every year and return with better result. Couldn't scare up the time with work and storm damage.
I'd still like to see a children's division. Perhaps we can think of a prize that would suit this division for next year.

I'd like to see the Booby Prize be a different wooden item every year. You guys have to educate me on the tradition of this type of prize. I thought the spoon had some significant meaning. If it hasn't then there are a whole plethora of wooden kitchen utensils that I can move on to for next year's prize if there is enough interest.

fruktodlaren, the donator of the wooden spoon prize, and I discussed things a bit. Children cannot win the wooden spoon prize. 50tbrd is second last adult player and thus wins the wooden spoon. Congratulations, Tony (@50brd) for winning this unwanted prize!
