I actually had a dream about Asteroid Belt last night that I got to 15000 and there was a secret message and the game crashed 🤣🤣 that was how much it was in my head Hah reminds me of some of the dreams I've had while programming Vyrzon for a few years...no rest from it even when asleep!
Congrats on your great scores and win, well deserved!

My thanks also to the organisers and other participants - very well done.
I didn't get as much time to play as I would have liked, but nevertheless enjoyed playing the games.

So, what was the trick to score in HeadsUp? Here comes the HeadsUp trick: Right after each kick-off you have to pass the ball straight ahead of you. When your player leaves the right side of the screen (that's scrolling to the left) that player emerges again from the left side and gets it's own pass in front of your opponents goal. Now you have to get around the goalkeeper and run with the ball over the goal line to score. In Game 2 and 3 there's a different behaviour of the goalkeeper so it depends a bit on the angle of approaching the goalkeeper. Just give it a try and see, if my explanation is sufficient. Maybe Peer has got an additional advice as he beat me either by talent and/or by better nerves. 😅 Cause, if there's a moment of unawareness, your opponent will eventually get the ball after kick off or when you are not successful to get around the goalkeeper and then you have to hunt the opponent player down and that costs you the best score. That pretty much sums it up. The shoot-left-go-right-and-reappear-left trick is the essential thing. Thus, it is possible to score a goal within 7 seconds from kick-off. It slightly depends whether the kick-off goes up or down. I find it easier if it goes up, as there is almost no opponent in your path then. If it goes down then you have to be quick or else the one opponent which is waiting there will get in the way of your long shot left. From then on it is all concentration not to lose the ball and to shoot or walk the ball around the goal keeper. I actually found level 3 easier to beat than level 2, as there is less random behavior of the computer ai in level 3, which makes it more predictable than the level 2 ai. After decades of not having played Soccer since childhood, I really enjoyed having a go at that game during the Vector War. But I still wonder what cool kind of tournament it would be if we all competed player-vs-player against each other on real consoles. Well, maybe one day in the future…

Great Vector War as always. I was hoping for around 4th. 5th isn't bad considering we had 28 people compete. I just hit a wall at a certain point and couldn't improve on my scores any more. Thank you to everyone that participated, donated prizes, or contributed a homebrew game. Of course big thanks to Helmut for organizing the tournament. I had a lot of fun and am so glad it is still a thing. Just a great community effort all around and some extra excitement with some games debuting with the tournament. hcmffm I tried posting about the tournament in the Facebook group and didn't get too much of a response. It's a good group for causal chat and hyping up new releases and getting orders and such. But more community efforts like feedback on student and in progress games, this tournament, or any in depth discussion are better suited to this forum. Both are great to have. Here's my thoughts on a few games: HyperchaseI've never been good at this game and would only have been able to qualify with the revised 250 time. The perspective with changing angles combined with finicky Vectrex analog make for a frustrating combo. So mozie going under 100 is especially amazing to me. Is that a world record? It's definitely the top score on vectrex.co.uk Rocks 'n' SaucersSuch a brilliant Asteroids port. I really appreciate that Thomas Sontowski made it available to non VecFever owners. The shots look so bright I feel like it looks better than on an Asteroid arcade vector screen. mozie got another great score on this. At some point I may be able to improve my score but sometimes things feel like they align against you and those small spaceships home in on you. VeCaves Glad I was able to get my copy before the tournament as it was a perfect way to break in the game. At a certain point there's like no room for error but it's still fun and I enjoy the music. I also like the glowing cart I got from Packrat. Was worth the extra $5. Vyrzon: Asteroid Belt
Really well done minigame. Always makes you feel like you can improve but is so tough. The thoughtful scoring is a nice touch with the bonus for dead center shots. Thanks for pushing to include it @minsoft it was a perfect addition to the competition. Save the planet
Once I got the hang of it I wished there was more to it. Well made student effort. Would like to see ships that go after you and shoot at you. I do kinda like there being a game that several people can get the full 100 points on. HexI had to open my mouth and make this game too hard lol. See the 1.1 on the competition rom? I bought Chris Malcom's Bits n Bytes cart years ago right after release when it was 1.0 and only had 16 levels. I beat it on my first try and let Chris know that I liked the game but it was too easy. So he made sure no one would ever have the same complaint again and expanded it to 32 levels with each after 16 being super hard. Sorry

jbrodack Hahaha the frustration hex caused me trying to beat your early high score was very difficult and I only lucked out at the end if you had beaten that score I wouldn't have bothered even trying to beat it AGAIN. I too have played that game a bit before but always stopped around level 20 or 21, At arojnd level 22 or 23 it's ridiculous and you really need to be lucky and play it lots. That was the more challenging score to beat. RnS the same you have to be lucky because that saucer can get you in one hit and his very accurate after the first few levels, I tried to leave lots of small asteroids on the screen when he appeared and try avoid his shots until one of the asteroids got him because if you pause for a second and stop moving your as good as dead. Love the bright shots too it really is a great game

It's always good to read manuals! 😁 Although the manual recommends to shoot a goal and not to just go around the goalkeeper til you run into the goal yourself ( with the ball). 😂

I am happy to report that both the spoon and the SGS metal cartridge has left my possession and is on their way to their respective winners and rightful new owners. Thank you for the fast shipping, Tony, and letting us know here. Speaking of prizes - there is still quite some backlog of prizes on my side from previous years. E.g. Bloxorz for Len, T-Shirts (VW11 + 12) for all prize winners, and key rings for several people. This is not forgotten and I'll to catch up till end of the year.

Heureka! My broken console is up and running again
Sorry, I did not know where else to post this. I had mentioned the broken console earlier here in this thread, so I thought I also post the good news here...
