Oh good that I read this, I thought it will start beginning of November, but it is already on 28th October :-) And it seems, this year a lot of people will join again. And as Playvectrex was writing: In my opinion, it is also every year more difficult to reach the top 3 rankings. But it also depends of the games sometimes. And yes, about Web Wars, if not everybody has a flashable cartridge for the bugfixed version, we should keep the threshold of 20. As far as I read here, the bugfix is only about the Trophy Room 2 and the title was changed to "Web Warped". But nothing else, and also not the picture refresh rate was changed (that also could affect the speed / difficulty.) itwww.hs-pforzheim.de/daten/mitarbeiter/johannsen/vectrex_lab/projects/web_warp/web_warp.htmBut one thing could happen with the bugfixed version: If you captured 20 trophies, and you will die and loose your last life during you try to capture the trophy number 21, then the game switched already over to Trophy Room 2, and you will have an empty trophy room 2. (That means, bugfixed version with 20 trophies is showing alrady en empty trophy room 2.) Hope I was able to explain this properly. - But if we know this, it is no problem. Or if everything will be to difficult, we could stay with the standard version :-) I

Web Wars: Bug fixed version - yes or no?… My understanding is that apart from the second trophee room no other changes have been made. So original GCE/MB version of Web Wars and bug fixed version have same difficulty and only start to differ above level 20 - right? … Yes, correct. I confirm that this is the only change made in that version.

The screen will say "trophy room 2" at the top, and if it does not display any trophies, this means you have captured 20 trophies (which are all stored in trophy room 1).

Chainsaw: Would have been too bad if you missed the Vector War by a week, Stefan. This is your 12th Vector War - isn't it? Good to know, Stefan and Peer, that the bug-fixed version of Web Wars doesn't have any other changes affecting game play. Screen refresh rate might be an issue, though, but I'm sure we'll find out and will sort this out.

Yes, it will be my 12th Vector War. No no, screen refresh is the same like in the original Web Wars game. I just considered this, because Peer did also some refresh rate fixes in other game, for example Bedlam and Hyper Chase. But not in Web Wars, it should run at the same speed and refresh rate like the original :-)

>Without full lives in Cavern Rescue, the really good players will easily top the scores.
I know, that's what I was thinking too. I would like to do a quick write up for those that have never played the game or bought a copy. I will do that shortly. It's a cliff notes version of how to play it. Those that were play testing it know how to get farther than those new to it.
PS: I never knew of this fix to Web Wars! Great work to those that worked on it!

Yay! My favorite week of the year is back. Coincides with my week off this year too so hope to put up some scores and play plenty of vectrex again this year (and the weather is so horrible lately it's a good excuse to stay indoors). Great selection of games this year too, some iam am very firmiliar with such as the count, vryzon and narzod but some others I've only played a little and a couple of vectrex academy games I have never played so look forward to getting stuck in.

Hi fellow Vector Warriors,
I've just saved the beginning and end dates and times in my Google calendar to terrorize my family.
I'm excited for this year's tournament with a great variety in the games list.
After two consecutive fourth places in the last two competitions I'm looking forward to give the hardcore guys again a tough fight. 😁
CU soon, Marc

Screen refresh rate is not affected and identical to the original. Thank you for your confirming, Peer. As written above, debugged version of Web Wars will be played with 20 trophies or more given that all Web Wars top players have a flashable cartridge at hand. ... I would like to do a quick write up for those that have never played the game or bought a copy. I will do that shortly. It's a cliff notes version of how to play it. Those that were play testing it know how to get farther than those new to it. ... Scott, if you find the time for a quick write up it's welcome. But I think that most players just try and find out - at least that is what I do. With some games this can be a hard way, though, not sure about Cavern Rescue. Great that you intend to participate again, John ( mozie ). It was a very tough fight last year - and it looks like it will be a tough fight this year, again. Thank you for your positive words on the game selection. Hi fellow Vector Warriors, ... "Terrorize my family" - hopefully not, Marc. Great that you intend to participate, again. A third rank is a good but probably tough target. Brett ( playvectrex ), John ( mozie ), and Stefan ( Chainsaw ) have announced to participate. And Christopher ( Malban) and John ( coleco1981 ) might be also around. @all new players: Even though in Vector War there's quite a number of players that show up every year, it's always a pleasure to have new participants in the tournament. There are very good players around and reaching one of the top rank is really much of a challenge. But there are also moderate and fun players around including me. Join in and find out! @all players: A ZIP archive with all binaries is in preparation and will be published Wednesday night (UTC+2) or Thursday night, latest. And some more prizes will be announced, too.

Here's a brief synopsis about Cavern Rescue. We will be playing in Hardcore Mode, you press '1' to begin (1 ship only - everything else still applies) Download below if you have a vecmulti or equivalent cart for playing on a real veccy. Cavern Rescue FinalHere's a video review someone did recently: www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4dwL6fsq-YThe controls: * Joystick left: rotate ship to the left * Joystick right: rotate ship to the right * Button #3: ship thrust * Button #4: ship fire’s a missile * Button #2: smart bomb (kills all enemies currently on the screen). One smart bomb per level, per ship life. If you use your smart bomb on the current Cavern, you cannot use another until you lose a ship on the current Cavern or you advance to next Cavern. * Button #1: pause the game (once paused, joystick will un-pause it) Gameplay: For Vector War - players will get one ship only. You control a ship which is placed at the entrance of a Cavern. Your goal is to pick up the flashing “orb” at the middle, the top, or at the bottom of the cavern. Once you pick it up (and get the 500 point boss), you must return the Orb to the flashing exit door. You must do that before your ship runs out of Energy. The Energy is shown in the upper-right of the screen (see attached screen shot). You get bonus points for how much Energy you have left when you return the Orb. You then advance to the next Cavern. There are 9 Caverns and two Challenge Stages. You get a bonus ship after completing Cavern #4. Note: the enemy ships that are following you cannot kill you if they touch you. The will suck away Energy from you when they touch you and if your Energy goes to zero, you will die. There are three ways to die: you run out of Energy, you collide with the cavern walls, or you get “zapped” by the zappers. Caverns #2 an #3 have force fields you can shoot through to get to the Orb. You have one smart bomb (button #3) to use per Cavern.

Greetings Vector Warriors!
Sorry, I am running late with everything these days. I wanted to post this earlier: In Vector War XIII, a special preview-version of "Count Vecula" will be played. This will be a special Vector-War-exclusive tournament-version, and, in agreement with Sean Kelly, I kindly ask all Vector Warriors to not distribute it. This tournament-version is characterized in that: - The player starts out with one single bow (life) only (hardcore mode), though you migth be able to "negotiate" with Count Vecula for additional bows...
- There is no two-player mode.
- There is no initial difficulty selection.
- The variety of levels is limited (still plenty enough for the tournament).
- A certain Easter-something is missing in this version.
The full version will be a physical release done by Sean Kelly and will have about three times as many levels, a two-player mode, and three different levels of difficulty in which the game can be played. The release will likely happen in November, and Vector War will be some sort of final field test. So if you spot any bugs or issues, please let me know. I am assembling the tournament version right now and it should be available to Vector War participants within the next days. I will also post a short How-To-Play and some tactical advice then.
Hope, you will like the game and have some fun with it
Many Cheers, Peer

Before we begin, will there be a better way this year to resolve ties? I don't want to prescribe a way... just curious if you have thoughts/plans. I didn't mind 3-way tying for 1st place, but you know there can only truly be one first place winner ;-)
Excited to setup the Veccies on the bar again for all to play, and get some high scores before I'm crushed on day 2 by others, lol.

Before we begin, will there be a better way this year to resolve ties? Like in proper football leagues i.e. the game that's played with the feet, perhaps we should look at "goal" difference to resolve this where that's possible? So where there is a target score, everyone that beats it gets max points, but in the event of a tie in the overall standings, then score over max would be considered. Or maybe the target scores get raised overall? If that's not possible, then maybe the game isn't a good candidate in the first place? Or, maybe there could be a joker card played, but that would get confusing, I guess.

scotthuggins : Thank you for the quickly written-up manual for Cavern Rescue. This will help players to get started with the game quickly. Peer : Thank you for your detailed info for your game "Count Vecula". Again, thank you for your donating two copies of the CIB version of Count Vecula. Before we begin, will there be a better way this year to resolve ties? I don't want to prescribe a way... Draws in a game are not a problem, I think, and cannot be avoided since games may have a maximum score. I assume you (Brett) mean(s) a draw in the overall score, right? Two years ago we had three winners and as a consequence the rules have been changed: "Default precision of scores is 1 point. If there should be a draw between two players with a price winning rank, the precision of scores will be increased to two decimal places to resolve the draw." There might be still a draw, in this case I'd suggest to increase the number of games that are counted (default is 6 games) until the draw is resolved. Please write here in case you have a better way on your mind to resolved draws in overall scoring. ZIP archive with all binaries plus complete list of prizes still need a bit of time - both should be final by Thursday night (UTC+2).
