Tony ( fruktodlaren ) has just sent me pictures of the wooden spoon for Vector War XIII and the collaborative project: As you can see, Tony's collaborative project is a CIB version of Cavern Rescue with an aluminum cartridge shell! Thank you, Tony ( fruktodlaren) and Scott ( scotthuggins) for crafting and donating these beautiful prizes!

- ZIP archive with binaries freely available can be downloaded. Please note that Count Vecula is still missing. Sorry and apologies for the delay. I wanted to get this done yesterday evening, but my daughter fell ill and needed attention. I am at work the whole day today, but I will address this, and the binary will be there in time for start of Vector War.
In order to speed things up:
If you are participating in Vector War, you can please also send me an email ( vectrex@pforzheim-university.de) and I will answer and send you the binary directly later today.
Many Cheers, Peer
PS: Here are previews of some early artwork of the box design and the overlay, done by Sean and Stephen, hinting at what the final product will look like.

scotthuggins : Thank you for the quickly written-up manual for Cavern Rescue. This will help players to get started with the game quickly. Peer : Thank you for your detailed info for your game "Count Vecula". Again, thank you for your donating two copies of the CIB version of Count Vecula. Before we begin, will there be a better way this year to resolve ties? I don't want to prescribe a way... Draws in a game are not a problem, I think, and cannot be avoided since games may have a maximum score. I assume you (Brett) mean(s) a draw in the overall score, right? Two years ago we had three winners and as a consequence the rules have been changed: "Default precision of scores is 1 point. If there should be a draw between two players with a price winning rank, the precision of scores will be increased to two decimal places to resolve the draw." There might be still a draw, in this case I'd suggest to increase the number of games that are counted (default is 6 games) until the draw is resolved. Please write here in case you have a better way on your mind to resolved draws in overall scoring. ZIP archive with all binaries plus complete list of prizes still need a bit of time - both should be final by Thursday night (UTC+2). Hi Helmut! Thanks for addressing this. I mean draws for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place titles. You say draws are not a problem, but if you ask more players than me... you will likely find people don't like to tie for placement. You want to know who was the best, second best, third best... because a lot of effort gets put into playing these games this hard. 2 years ago we pretty much figured it out looking at the scores who was the actual 1st place winner... so that result is fine. I really don't think anyone would argue it too much. Just wanted to raise it to see if it can be resolved in a fair way ahead of the start of the competition. If there is a draw, I would propose extending the number of games counted beyond 6 until the tie is broken. This has always been a way to get higher scores anyways, being able to play more games well. Not everyone is good at every game. Also if there are a lot of "max out" type games, there is a much higher chance of a draw for placement, because of the even scores. I don't think extending the decimal place in the scores is as fair as it might seem. I can remember other scores from players below 3rd place affecting the placement of 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the past, which didn't seem right to me. I didn't study the math there, but it seemed like the way the scores were calculated there is some error that creeps in when scores change without much placement changing... or perhaps it was additional qualifiers added, drops an individual point total. I'm pretty sure 1st place was always pegged at 100%, to lets only discuss 2nd place on a game. So say two players have six 1st place each, and 2nd place rank on two different games. If you judge it by the VW score, 2nd place for one might be 96% and it might be 94% on another one because more or less players qualified with that one (forget which)... but 2nd place is 2nd place... there shouldn't be a score associated with it to try to determine which 2nd place was better. I don't believe you can truly determine the better player based on who had more points for their individual 2nd place accomplishment. Maybe assign an arbitrary value to 2nd place as 95 always, and 3rd place 90 always. Then when you add things up you can only have a draw if both players have the same number of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place wins. Here's a ranking of 1(st), 2(nd), 3(rd) place games per this example... 1st - 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3 (has most 1st place wins) 2nd - 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3 (has same 1st place wins, but more 2nd place wins) 3rd - 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3 (etc..) 4th - 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 3 (etc..) Chime in please if this makes sense to anyone else

Quick question on submitting the photo of a score. Below it mentions to include a small paper with the current score code in the picture. I don't see any score codes listed next to the games in post #1 of this thread. Are there any score codes for any of the games in this year's tournament? Sorry if I missed something about this!
Score code: Whenever you take a photoproof of your highscore, make sure you include a small paper with the current score >code in the photo. Only photoproofs with visible and correct score code will be valid. Score codes change >during the tournament, so make sure that you first lookup the current score code before playing and taking a >photo.

Hello Scotthuggins. The first scorecode will be published, when the Vector War ist starting :-) This is to avoid, that players already start playing and "collecting" good scores before the Vector War ist starting. About the filehoster for the pictures, I recommend imgbb.com/ but I think there are many others.

Here's a perfect example of wrong rank and point total in my opinion. i.ibb.co/Ryfk9ZP/Vector-War-XII-highscores-22.png Vorkosigan has 538 points, placed 1,2,2,2,2,2 - 4th place jbrodack has 532 points, placed 1,2,2,2,2,2 - 5th place hspfpj has 523 points and placed 1,1,2,2,2,2 - 6th place (but two 1st place wins) Just based on how many players were playing each game... Vorkosigan's 2nd place points were higher in total, and similar story for jbrodack. In my opinion, 1st, 2nd, 3rd place values should be fixed, and should require at least 3 players in that game to award any points for 1st 2nd and 3rd. No default 1st place for a game because you were the only one playing it, etc.. So that said, if 1st-3rd was 100, 95, 90... the result would have been hspfpj with 580 points and placed 1,1,2,2,2,2 - 4th place (most 1st place wins) Vorkosigan with 575 points, placed 1,2,2,2,2,2,2 - 5th place (7 games to resolve draw for 5th... one more 2nd place win than jbrodack) jbrodack has 575 points, placed 1,2,2,2,2,2,3 - 6th place Of course though, if you counted all games played with this system in mind, Vorkosigan would be on top again... so the limit of 6 games does affect things as well even without draws to consider, but this also helps you focus on which games to improve scores on. And if we stay focused on fixing draws, fixing the points of 1st - 3rd place will help, and move to included 7, 8 games etc.. to help determine the draw resolution.

I just returned late from work, and now this. Seems that today is just not my day. I am very sorry guys. All my university vectrex pages are currently unreachable, and all I can do is check with the admins on coming Monday

If you email me the game, I can host it for you ASAP. Thanks for your kind offer. It is not about the game, I just emailed that to Helmut, it is about all the html project pages which hold the game descriptions, manuals, and how-to-plays. Especially also for the student games.

I can host those temporarily as well if you like... as long as it self populates in one folder.
