Summer is coming to an end - time to announce the yearly Vector War. Actually, it feels good to announce the thirteenth Vector War. Last year really cool games were played in Vector War including Vyrzon:Asteroid Belts and Rocks 'n' Saucer - again thank you very much to all authors of homebrew software who make this possible. And there were cool players, too, both young and old; both novice and experienced players from all over the world. Game list for Vector War XIIIAs usual, games played in Vector War are a mixture of original games and homebrew games. It's still about 7 weeks to go - so we might even inlude 1-2 games that have to be ordered like Crush of Lucifer. Posessing all games in a Vector War can be some advantage but you can join and win Vector War even without possessing these games. Original gamesFortress of Narzod Heads up Soccer (right, this one has been played in VW XII, already.) Polar Rescue Spinball (the lucky game) Star Castle (the tough game) Web Wars Homebrew gamesCavern Rescue by Scott Huggins Wet Cat (Vectrex Academy 2023) The Count (Vectrex Academy 202x) More games - you may chooseAltogether 6 or 7 homebrew games will be played in a Vector War. Below please find some suggestions for additional games - you may suggest additional games and/or raise your hand for specific games: Games of Vectrex Academy 2023: Happy Bird, Vec-T-Rex Run, VecDrift, ... Vyrzon by minsoft Crush of LuciferOne of John Donzila's games: Vaboom, Paratroopers, Spike Hoppin', ... Spike's Circus Your comments and suggestions for the Vector War and game list are welcome.

Finally found the time for this: Hooray, this is great Thanks a lot, Helmut, for organizing the tournament again!!! I am looking forward to the event. Though I am not good at any of the selected original games. Except for Soccer. But the key element to a winning strategy for that game is out since last year, so also Soccer will be tough this time. Of the other games, Polar Rescue, Fortress of Narzod and Star Castle I have hardly ever played, as I did not own them in my childhood. I always wanted to dig into Star Castle, so I guess this is the chance to do so. Will be fun! Will also be fun to hopefully "meet" many of the past years' participants again! Many Cheers, Peer

Thank you for your enthusiastic post, Peer. Star Castle is really a challenge and Fortress of Narzod, too. Together with other games like Wet Cat and your "The Count" it will be a good mixture of games, I think. ___ Time flies and I have just decided that Vyrzon will be played this year. Steve will create another batch of Vyrzon and I'm about figuring out with Steve how Vector War participants who haven't got Vyrzon, yet, might might get a copy in time. Original gamesFortress of Narzod Heads up Soccer (right, this one has been played in VW XII, already.) Polar Rescue Spinball (the lucky game) Star Castle (the tough game) Web Wars Homebrew gamesCavern Rescue by Scott Huggins Wet Cat (Vectrex Academy 2023) The Count (Vectrex Academy 202x) Vyrzon by Steve (minsoft) Another 2-3 more homebrew games to complete the list. Happy Bird of the Vectrex Academy is a hot candidate and Vec-Trex-Run and VecDrift are also cool. But I'm not sure whether that these fulfill requirements of a tournament, i.e. comparable scoring with ability to take a photoproof at the end plus an increasing and decent difficulty which prevents marathoning.

I mean why break a tradition. A wooden spoon has been purchased and refined, and I got the authors part of this years collaborative prize, I haven't finished my part in it just yet though. Rest assured it will be done well in time for the competition.
About the game list, since Soccer Football was played last year, the trick of scoring was revealed, not sure though I can pull it off even WITH that knowledge. But it might make the scores more even this year. Polar Rescue is also a points divider as many players (me included) just can't get a competitive score in it. It is going to be fierce competition, one can be sure of that.
A personal favourite of mine among the Vectrex Academy titles have been Bubble Splitter from the 2022 lineup. Perhaps we only choose from the current year lineup regarding vectrex academy titles?
I need to get an order in for Crush of Lucifer soon I guess, so I will get it in time.

Great to read of you, Tony. Really great that there's a number of people who have the yearly Vector War on their mind and even support it. You with the wooden spoon and special prize, Darryl ( VectorX ) who has pinned this topic, ... I mean why break a tradition. A wooden spoon has been purchased and refined, and I got the authors part of this years collaborative prize, I haven't finished my part in it just yet though. Rest assured it will be done well in time for the competition. Right, traditions are a good thing and your wooden spoon is much appreciated and has become an important element of the Vector War. People are fighting hard to get around it. Good to read about the collaborative price - I have a faint idea. Vector War is always fierce if you want to be among the top 3 players - isn't it? A personal favourite of mine among the Vectrex Academy titles have been Bubble Splitter from the 2022 lineup. Perhaps we only choose from the current year lineup regarding vectrex academy titles? Games of the Vectrex Academy aren't limited to the 2023 lineup. But I think 2023 games should be prefered because game authors are still around and Vectrex Academy memories are still fresh. I need to get an order in for Crush of Lucifer soon I guess, so I will get it in time. Already, Vyrzon is in the game list and has to be purchased. I'm hesitant to add another "commercial" game like Crush of Lucifer to this year's game list.

Could use Tee Time. There is a scorecard after 13 holes and doesn't take too long to finish ibb.co/pybg596

Firstly thank you hcmffm for deciding to include Vyrzon in this years competition - it is an honour!
For those participants who would like a copy of Vyrzon, there will be a batch available at the end of the week. As sent to subscribers of my mailing list:
The next batch of Vyrzon is now ready and will be available on Friday 29th September 2023, at 19:00 BST.
If you are a Vector War participant then please note that I will be despatching games as soon as possible but cannot guarantee delivery in time for the competition. Deliveries to regions handled by Deutsche Post and PostNord in particular tend to be slow, unfortunately.

Tee time is very well done but I'm not sure whether scoring really fits to a tournament. Score card flickers very much but cameras can cope with flicker, I think. So we might give it a try. Thank YOU for having developed your excellent Vyrzon, Steve. And thank you for announcing another batch of Vyrzon. Sure enough I much hope that Vector War participants are lucky enough to place an order and get their copy in time. A hint from my own experience: Make sure you don't refresh the Vyrzon order page too often, otherwise your IP address will be blocked for a longer while.

Hi All. At the moment too much texts above to read everything at the moment, will read it in a few days, because I'm sick (also finally got Covid after being spared for 4 years), but at a first view, the game list looks great already. Also nice to read well known names / people here again. Somehow a highlight at the moment for me, to read about the upcoming Vector War, yeahhh !!!
Ohh a question about Web Wars. I consider, if it would make sense to use Peer's bugfixed version, in which the Trophy Room 2 is working? In one way it would make sense to eliminate the score limit of 20 trophies, otherwise I remember the way from trophy 20 to 21 can be a bit glitchy, but should work anyway. Not sure if I forget anything at the moment, that could be a problem, when we try Peer's bugfixed version at this Vector War? (Only Trophy Room 2 available / no other changes.)
