Highscore list has been updated - see initial post. Current top 5 ranking: 1. mozie (559pts) 2. kiwasabi (547pts) 3. Chainsaw (546pts) 4. Peer (513pts) 5. arquillos (509pts) Judges will decide tonight how wooden spoon rule is handled. ___ Excellent playing everyone! Cool that hints are exchanged even before the end of the tournament. Cool, Len and Måns that you overtook Tony in Pole Position. @ John ( mozie): Do I get it right: You have beaten EDIH? Anyway, congrats to your brilliant EDIH highscore. Yes I have beaten the game but I have beaten it a number of times prior to this year's tournament and remember playing it lots back in vector wars x!! How quickly time goes, now I must order a copy of unicorn galaxy as it looks similarly excellent

Pole Position: 77,400 From what I read online, 77,600 is the maximum score on Vectrex Pole Position. I wonder if one of us will achieve that during the Vector War. Good job everyone. The competition is very strong and this is a lot more enjoyable than just playing alone.

SketczI wasn't aware of fast turning in Marine Fox. Haha! I think I've just upset the balance of power with that tip. Fast turning in Marine Fox turns it into a totally different game. Playing without it is like playing Clean Sweep without using the invincibility boxes. You can be heading for a shark, spin out, round, and then be on his tail in seconds, allowing you to ride his wake safely collecting crystals. It also helps if you miss stuff. It was a revelation. The tricky thing is you have two turn buttons, and it took a while to memorise. Push left on the stick with the right hutton cancels you out. If that makes sense. Playing using a modified NeoGeo Mini controller (analogue stick input).

The tricky thing is you have two turn buttons, and it took a while to memorise. Push left on the stick with the right hutton cancels you out. If that makes sense. Playing using a modified NeoGeo Mini controller (analogue stick input). So far I haven't tried this out yet. I've been having my work cut out for me on other games. And since I'm still in first on Marine Fox, I'm in a holding pattern until someone beats my score. It's really an extremely random and challenging game and just takes a ton of playthroughs before the stars align to allow for that 35,000 to 40,000 point game. Actually it seems the game chills out a bit starting on level 10 or so. I believe the game has 16 total levels. So the possibility still exists that someone could come and blow it up if they're able to get through levels 8 and 9. Great job on Thrust, by the way. I tried playing that and on level 2, it felt like lifting a ton of bricks while attempting to carry the object out of the cave. It would just swing wildly and I'd feel like I couldn't fly up at all. Thrust just doesn't seem like my type of game. I never cared for Solar Fox or Gravitar or any complicated physics type of shooter. By the way, where did you get the modded neo geo controller? There's a guy on ebay from England who was making them. I ordered one from him but it didn't properly register the up direction so I got a refund. Strangely enough when the creator tried the controller on his vectrex, he didn't see the same issue. We hypothesized that there may be some differences between the European Vectrex and the American one, even though there's not supposed to be. It's really too bad because that definitely had the best feeling analog joystick of any controller I've ever tried for Vectrex. I found that the vast majority of analog Vectrex aftermarket controllers being sold have a super stiff joystick that doesn't allow for precise control and also hurts my thumb. I ended up opting for a New Old Stock Vectrex controller in order to have a good analog joystick. I feel that is a big reason that I'm able to play well on Pole Position. I would think that the neo geo pad would control Pole Position extremely well.

Today I am heading away for some r&r for a few days but of course the vectrex is coming with me on its holidays too. Good call on the neogeo controller I am using the same controller and really nice analogue stick on it. Great pole position score too I think you are pretty close to maximum scores on this game.

I think you got it from the same guy - I'm in the UK and found him on eBay. He gave me his website.

The stick is so smooooooth.
For Thrust (thank you!), shoot every enemy and collect every fuel, all points. If you can get over the lvl 6 hump it gets easy again, because the levels loop with reverse gravity, and lvls 1 and 2 are quite simple.
I'm not sure I can beat 6 again - it requires very slow patience. Sometimes just spending a while gently tapping so the inertia wears down on the ball.

A few small updates: Marine Fox: 33'156
Pole Position: 70'390
Rip Off: 6'940
Vectrexagon: 135:42 ibb.co/dMVDZYWibb.co/8XLZHmHibb.co/tHDsvX4ibb.co/5hg3vBkLess than one second off fmml's time on Vectrexagon. I tried about 20 times again to match that, but didn't come close. I might take a break tomorrow and resume on Thursday. See if a little reset freshens the skills. I'm also starting to look at the leaderboard tactically. It's like a game in itself. For some games, even if you feel you can do much better, and can climb several ranks, it won't necessarily help, since there are others with higher overall scores (only your 6 highest scores count anyway). Your improvement in the total ranking would be negligible. So the goal then is to try and usurp specific scores from others, not to climb the ranks, but reduce their ranks. I can definitely do much better in Clean Sweep, but is it worth even trying to boost that score? I won't make #1. And Halloween, or Release? I enjoy them both a lot, but I'm not sure I can come close to matching anyone else.
A more tactical manoeuvre is to focus all my energy into Marine Fox, since the higher positions are hotly contested - they are, essentially, "swing games" in terms of influence. Conversely Thrust isn't my #1 for fun, I enjoy Halloween more for pure pleasure - but I was good at Thrust so focused hard on that.
Anyone else do this, or have I simply gone full Rainman, LOL.
I suppose the simple question is: do you chase scores on the games you find fun, or as part of a wider grand strategy?

Hahah I also do this so your definitely not alone.. I try submit scores for all and which ones i like or are firmiliar with I hone in on. This year so far I have steered clear on incredible vectrexagon score as it would take a long time, also pole position is very close to max I think too. Since clean sweep has a maximum today I am focusing on that
