I PMed Ax on AA about the AtariVox, and got a reply back within 12 hours, so maybe he's just been busy.

So, I have my Vectrex all set up so I can start playing some games using my new AtariVox+ and I noticed that the dipswitches on the Vox+ can be set for the standard AtariVox, VecVox, and VecVoice. I figured I'd try to create a list of games and the setting they use. Starting with a list posted on Atari Age, this is what I know:
Debris Revisited - VecVox for speech, explosions and other sound effects. Verzerk - VecVoice for speech. VecVox Xmas - the name says it all. Space Frenzy - VecVoice Spike's Circus - VecVox Y.A.S.I. (Yet Another Space Invaders) [On Protector/Y.A.S.I.]- ?? V-Hockey - VecVox Vectoblox - VecVox Colorclash - VecVox Pythagoran Theorem - ?? Boulder Escape Terror Hazard - ?? Shifted - VecVox
Looks like most games use the VecVox setting, so I'm likely going to leave that setting on as my default on my Vox+.

Y.A.S.I. (Yet Another Space Invaders) [On Protector/Y.A.S.I.]- ?? VecVoice. The invaders taunt you during gameplay.

This cord that is supposedly needed for the AtariVox+, what is it used for? Does it connect to an external [pair of] speaker(s) or something? Is it mandatory? Because I'd like to try to save some money on this if I could. So I sent an e-mail to golden.axe about this yesterday, as he said he had commitments through the 1st. I got a reply from someone else today I had never heard of (as he said someone else might be doing it by then) and they raised the damn price by NINE dollars. So now it's $50 to have it shipped here. What a load of sh*t! I assume the price had to be raised due to the rest of the inventory being mailed to this person, which is crap due to how Atari Age was originally penned to taking care of these like two years ago or something, which Albert wouldn't do anything like this. And I had donated several 2600 carts and have credit with them but now I can't use that money for this. <grumble>

The cable powers the unit I believe, through the +5v pin on the joystick port.

The 2600 case allows you to plug it in directly, I don't believe that's possible on the Vectrex, hence the need for the cable.

The cable is a modified 2600 joystick cable so it can be plugged into the Vectrex port. Without that cable, you can't plug the Vox+ in place for it to work. Last I heard, Atari Age will have these on the store as well with a different box and label.

Maybe the people that are currently taking care of them know. I'll ask, since saving $50 would really help me at the moment.

Well, the fiasco continues So, I had asked Golden Ax's wife (that was the person who had responded) about the price change, in case they had been mailed to her and that was why (I didn't know who I was dealing with at the time). She said that it was only a $4 increase, which wasn't true (but then she didn't explain it either way). She said Ax had suffered a back injury and couldn't work on the units any more, so she would be finishing off the orders. She also said that she was responding because I had inquired about these several times. Well, what do you EXPECT? I contacted Ax and was told to try again on June 1st. Then I got a price increase and what was I supposed to do, just let it go and accept it with no explanation? Sorry, but I think probably just about anyone reading this is going to question it. So, along with explaining that $50 was indeed a $9 increase, I said to pass along my word that I hoped Ax would get better. I got no reply there (you're welcome), along with no explanation of the $9 increase. Then several days later I got an Atari Age pm from her saying that the units were now $46. What--freaking--ever. ANOTHER price change! That makes three prices in all for this ordeal. At this point I just wanted this to be over with and to get my unit, so I thanked her for the update (although I didn't really mean it, although the price was cheaper this time, but still more than what I was first told) and sent along a money order a few days later. No response from her again there. So I got my unit today. It makes me nervous prying it open with a screwdriver in order to change the dipswitch settings from an Atari 2600, VecVoice and VecVox setting (and maybe another setting for a 7800, I can't recall right now). How long are these supposed to last? What if I get several homebrews for all systems that need a lot of dipswitch changes? The inside assembly seems a bit loose. It's all a tight fit when you snap the two halves of the unit back together, which seems like those could break at some point. It wouldn't fit in my Vectrex. The sides of the plug were crudely shaved (I'll get back to this later). I got it in and heard the voice through my stereo speakers that it was working (but just for the moment...). I got no additional voice and still screwed up graphics of the alien in Space Frenzy (you can see how it looks on my Vectrex here under Trivia, and yes I'm aware of the error of it working off of a VecVox, as I had claimed. I would say I'll fix this later, along with explaining how the game works differently with one of these units, but it might be a while, if never). I got no extra voices on Y*A*S*I either. Then when I pulled down on the cord the voices came and went on Y*A*S*I during the attract mode, plus they would cut in and out during gameplay. Can't exactly play the game with one hand while juggling the cord with the other in order to enjoy it, sorry. It seems to have a short in it. I've since messed around with putting my Vectrex and AtariVox+ on the floor (usually it sits on a stool), rather than having the latter hang when it has a short but now I'm not getting anything at all, other than just the startup voices and brief music pieces saying that it's working upon power-up; nothing in-game or during the Y*A*S*I attract mode, much less Space Frenzy (which didn't work anyway). I'm not looking forward to spending even MORE f***ing money on shipping back the damn cord to change it out. This is ridiculous, and I'll bet Ax's wife won't be happy to be hearing from me again (by the way, I still have all e-mails in regards to the price changes and such in case they try to say otherwise). Unfortunately, like I said earlier, one thing that might not look real good on my part is that the cord wouldn't fit and it was shaved on the sides. Well, I had to shave off some of the bottom in order to get it to fit into the second controller port. There was no other way to get it to fit, it wouldn't do so as it was. So that might not look good on my part when I send it back. The cord is still bad though, bottom line, no matter how you look at it. Freakin' crappy day, among other things going on this Monday
