Has any one here ever "conquered" Web Wars??? There are supposed to be 21 trophies, but the "TROPHY ROOM" only holds 20 it looks like. Since the last one doesn't fit, I imagine that it is an extra special one and that maybe there is even some sort of ending to this game. ... I got TWENTY yesterday for the first time: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmUmMZeZYzQ&feature=em-upload_owner#action=share... The game actually changed a little bit around the 18th, (I think this was the first time I exceeded 17): periodically there would be horizontal sections of the web missing, but it didn't affect game play that I could tell. ...It has always seemed strange to me that many Vectrex fans seem to be dismissive of this game. It is by far the most impressive of the original games for me, and always the one I go to when I am trying to showcase the console.

I thought it was pretty cool as well. I look forward to owning a copy one day. I just play it at a gaming expo occasionally (don't care much for emulation).

Scramble, Narzod and Web Wars were my favorites when I was a kid playing the Vectrex. Spinball, Solar Quest and Armor Attack were probably after that.

I like the game a lot - I just have other go-to games. Keep it up, I would be interested to see if this game has an 'end' - however I highly doubt it.

It could be because you can slow it way the hell down and be leisurely about it.

Oh right, during the first Vector War we disqualified WW because *I* discovered this, that it is very easy to get infinite (or insanely high) scores. I forgot (haha)

Hey Glip. Why is there a painting of somebodies arse behind your Vectrex? Is it a subliminal message?

Hey Glip. Why is there a painting of somebodies arse behind your Vectrex? Is it a subliminal message? Ha, that is a painting I did many years ago. I recently placed it there to block the light from the window, mainly so I could take pictures of Vectrex games. Tons of light comes in otherwise. In the past I have used a large pillow to block this window, but recently discovered that the painting worked much better and was more convenient. The reason it is an arse is because that is how the model posed in the class. It is the same model seated and facing forward, beside the standing rear view figure. Alternating pose was the project.

... Yeah, I remember the high score cheat from last year or whenever it was. IDK if that's a factor or not. I certainly don't discount the game for that. If that's the reason why others do, I would be even more confused. It's a VECTOR game with AMAZING VECTOR GRAPHICS.
I just think it's hands down the best LOOKING game, the most dynamic use of vector graphics, HANDS DOWN. I think the game is fun too but perhaps above all else, it just has a ton of style and character. All of the elements combine to form an iconic and memorable juxtaposition. The overlay adds to the game more than any of the other game overlays, the vector graphics are more essential and more impactful than any of the other games and it has the most convincing 3D effect of any of the games.
I think Minestorm is a more popular game. Scramble seems like a favorite of many. Pole Position, Narzod and Star Castle seem more popular too. Cosmic Chasm seems to get a lot of mentions, although I can't tell if it's anyone's favorite, or if it is more getting mentioned as "an original" and an under-appreciated game.
In my mind the only Vectrex games that can hold a candle to Web Wars are homebrews I,Cyborg, War of the Worlds, Vector Pilot, Gravitrex and Protector.
...
RE: "conquering Web Wars", (which was the real subject of my original post) -
I got 20 trophies again yesterday, and made another observation or two. I think I was wrong about the webs changing after 17 or 18. It looks like they change only for the final level. ...
Also I had two or three lives to devote to the last level this time and managed to stay alive for a couple minutes. After progressing plenty long enough to have encountered multiple trophies on any other level, I DID NOT SEE A SINGLE TROPHY TO PICK UP!
So clearly the last level works differently. At first I thought maybe you have to stay alive long enough to make it to some sort of destination, perhaps a battle. ... But now I am thinking that maybe the missing Web segments are a clue. Maybe the 21st trophy is an INVISIBLE trophy?
... At any rate, when I see the insane scores that people get on other Vectrex games, I am very surprised that I have never been able to find documentation of the conclusion of Web Wars.

Hey Glip. Why is there a painting of somebodies arse behind your Vectrex? Is it a subliminal message? We've been mooned! And the same happened to glip the day that model was in his class! It's a VECTOR game with AMAZING VECTOR GRAPHICS. I just think it's hands down the best LOOKING game, the most dynamic use of vector graphics, HANDS DOWN. In my mind the only Vectrex games that can hold a candle to Web Wars are homebrews I,Cyborg, Yeah, that was the first thing I thought upon reading the above: as well as Web Wars, Cyborg also is a killer looking game, especially with the second Area. I think Minestorm is a more popular game. 'Cuz it's built in! After progressing plenty long enough to have encountered multiple trophies on any other level, I DID NOT SEE A SINGLE TROPHY TO PICK UP! Maybe the 21st trophy is an INVISIBLE trophy? That's what I've wondered in regards to Tank Hunter, a vector-like online game. I've never gotten past the 19th mission. You have to collect three power-ups, you're against these tanks that take two or three hits to be destroyed (unlike the regular ones that only take one) AND against these invisible tanks, yet barely any of the blasted power-ups that you need appear! I've never been able to get past that level. Damn pain... ... At any rate, when I see the insane scores that people get on other Vectrex games, I am very surprised that I have never been able to find documentation of the conclusion of Web Wars. Unfortunately that's still the way with a ton of Vectrex mysteries to this day, decades after its release: no documentation of anything Among many things that are needed to preserve with Vectrex history, one of THE top things I wish for is that someone, somewhere would pop up with some photos (even scanned ones of Poloroids for all I care) of the inside of a Vectrex factory. Never seen any, and there's even shots of Atari and all.

Among many things that are needed to preserve with Vectrex history, one of THE top things I wish for is that someone, somewhere would pop up with some photos (even scanned ones of Poloroids for all I care) of the inside of a Vectrex factory. Never seen any, and there's even shots of Atari and all. For sure that would be a more important documentation than my little mission for trophy 21. And of course trophy 21 can still be attained presumably, as opposed to the artifacts you describe. This reminds me of something I have thought about occasionally, for many years. There are so many things from the past that were routine at the time, but seem spectacular in retrospect, and I wish I could see photographic documentation of them, but have no idea how to even begin searching. For me these mostly consist of defunct businesses from my childhood, retail and restaurants etc. Many local department stores are just very memorable to me, and seem like such saturated environments compared to today's super sanitary ones. Remember when there were lots of different regional department stores? Remember when there were diners inside, (as opposed to McDonald's or cookie cutter concessions)? Every thing today seems to be designed and planned in such a way as to completely avoid ever becoming dated. So the result is that time is imperceivable and this year looks and feels basically the same as 2003. Cinemas are another thing. Several unique ones in Cincinnati 20+ years ago, (now they all look the same). We used to have a "skywalk" in Cincinnati, (an enclosed system of public pedestrian bridges between many of the buildings downtown), and there was a "Skywalk Cinema" that was entered on the second floor of a building, through the skywalk. ... The cinema is long gone and the skywalk itself has mostly been dismantled. Recently a politician here compared the old skywalk system to the new proposed streetcar project, as a giant failure and waste of a project. ... I think the skywalk was awesome!

It could be because you can slow it way the hell down and be leisurely about it. That only works in the early levels. When you get deeper in the game it actually gets pretty unfair. The minimum speed is higher, as you might expect. But the unfairness comes in capturing the trophies. You can't just hang out in the back and spit your rod at a trophy right in front of you. More often than not you will crash into the trophy and die if you do this in the later levels. You kind of have to use an assortment of manipulations to capture at this point in the game. It helps to be moving fast (being deeper in the web) and also helps to approach the trophy at an angle. It's pretty tricky and honestly seems like more of a glitch than anything else, (kind of like the multiple hit requirements in Narzod).

There are so many things from the past that were routine at the time, but seem spectacular in retrospect, and I wish I could see photographic documentation of them, but have no idea how to even begin searching. There are many abandoned places' sites and YouTube videos and the like. I'd start there. Also, there's some Google thing (I'd have to look it up if you'd want to check it out) where you can look at a certain spot (maybe even Google Earth?) and see how it looked 20, 30, maybe even more years before that. They could have some shots of specific places if you're lucky and have the coordinates.
