I've just seen the ebay auction, too. There are at least two versions of mail plane prototypes around: In the defect version the plane doesn't start and in the other one it does. In the auction it looks as if the plane does start.
If we are 100% sure that this is the "good" version I'd also think that we should try to purchase the prototype and make the binaries public.
If others here agree, I'll contact the seller and ask for the functionality of the MailPlane prototype and perhaps even let him know that the Vectrex community is interested in purchasing the item.

I'm not sure a dump of the plane taking off version is out there. I've got what I call "version 2" in my possession, in which you can do everything up until the point of take-off (in 8k). There is an even earlier revision (in 6k I think) that is more basic than that. If this is a pretty fully functioning copy, colour me interested

I did not even know this game existed for the Vectrex!

^It's one of the lost ones, as there's only a few known copies to exist in various working (or not) states.
Really nice overhead screenshot on the ebay page as the plane's actually flying, as I hadn't seen that one before. There's a few YouTube videos of it, but I've only seen the screens up to the point where you load packages onto the plane, the title screen, the map showing a few states, etc., and that's been it until today for me that I've seen of the game.

I'm not sure a dump of the plane taking off version is out there. ... A version with the plane taking off does exist. You can see this in on of the ebay screenshots and you can see this in this youtube video: A longer time ago I had been in contact with Shawn S.. Shawn also has a working copy of Mail plane. Initially, he wanted to make Mail Plane public but from what I heard/understood there was limited interest and quite some money to invest to make a "production version" (with box, manual, ...).

I never said there wasn't a copy of this "working" version known, I was talking about being available for people to download/play And yes, I was reasonably sure the version Shawn has is playable. More playable than mine. I think. Given seeing the video, I might recheck my version to make sure.

O.k., I don't send a inquiry myself, then. Please keep us informed, Chris. I never said there wasn't a copy of this "working" version known, I was talking about being available for people to download/play Ah, o.k., I misunderstood. Is there any mail plane binary available for download at all? And yes, I was reasonably sure the version Shawn has is playable. More playable than mine. I think. Given seeing the video, I might recheck my version to make sure. In my prototype version the plane does not take off so there was little point in making it public. Would be good to know what your Mail Plane version can do. As written before, if the prototype offered at ebay is fully functional, the Vectrex community should try and purchase it and then make it public. This could be either just a binary version or we could try to create a full version with a box and manual (no overlay ;-) ).

Looks pretty interesting. Based on the video this uses the light pen as well as the controller. Nifty.

This seller also listed Dark Tower last week (which has been dumped). There was a person on Digital Press who a couple of weeks inquired about interest in his version of Mail Plane which from the video posted on youtube was fully functional including lift off, lightning strikes, etc. I know these carts are different though because the Digital Press one said "MB 1983" and the one on eBay says "GCE 1983".

FAIK the label "GCE" cannot be changed by programmers. Are you sure you saw "MB 1983"? EDIT: Just found the Mail Plane topic that you wrote about at DigitalPress with a link to the Youtube video. It does say "MB 1983".
