Has anyone played it on emulation? I mostly play on the Vectrex, but I did try it on ParaJVE and it works well. With ParaJVE you can use the mouse as the light pen. In general would be nice if there were hints on how to play this game optimally - anyone?

i always
- pick the shortest/most direct routes - load my packages in reverse order of my route - increase speed/altitude between long hauls and don't bother for shorter trips - avoid clouds - circle a city in a hard left (or right) on the joystick when landing from a higher altitude
i believe i completed seven maps on my best attempt, curious if the game just continues on or if there is an goal such as delivering to all 50 states...

Added hint note below. i always - pick the shortest/most direct routes - load my packages in reverse order of my route - increase speed/altitude between long hauls and don't bother for shorter trips - avoid clouds - circle a city in a hard left (or right) on the joystick when landing from a higher altitude - When landing, land in a direction appropriate for the next city on the route.

On ParaJVE I have noticed a difference with some clouds. Some clouds appear to be a single point on the display. Unsure why.

It probably just needs a tweak. Try playing one of the versions of Tsunami (I forget which one) on ParaJVE and the displays are screwed up.

Would you give me any hints to play it with ParaJVE ? I cannot use my mouse as the light pen.

I would love to play this on my Vectrex but I need a light pen. Recycled gamer seems to be sold out of all inventory so I'm not sure where to get one.

I just etched some tiny circuit boards to fit inside a sharpie marker if anyone else is interested in going the DIY route.
I'll build it up this weekend to make sure it works first...

I've had all the parts to make one for quite some time but honestly my soldering skills need work.

I have played the game a few times briefly on Vectrex. I loaded it once in one of the emulators but couldn't get light pen functionality, (didn't try very hard as emulation is only a last resort for me). So not sure how it compares between emulation and Vectrex, but based on some of the things mentioned, I'll point out that there are some points in the game where text flickers as an indication. Also some audio indications for right or wrong selections. So if that is not visible/audible in emulation, it might really handicap you. .. You need to unload the correct package at each stop and unless you are very careful about how you load them in the beginning, you will want to see the indication in the drop-off screen. If you load them in a non-sensical way I think you can still make your drop offs by dragging each box out until you find the right one, and then dragging the wrong ones back in. To deliver the package you drag it to the correct check box next to the city name. In case the basic controls are an issue and maybe not mentioned yet, the other light pen games are a decent cue. Selecting things usually involves pressing a button on the controller while pointing with pen. .. I think this is a cool game, visually and conceptually interesting. Personally though I think it would play better as a regular controller game, possibly with analog functionality in the stick. I just etched some tiny circuit boards to fit inside a sharpie marker if anyone else is interested in going the DIY route. I'll build it up this weekend to make sure it works first... If you can confirm it works and is a good setup and the rest of the components are easy enough to get, I would like one. .. If there are others relying on this for their only light pen, they should be the priority though. For me it would just be a fun project and an alternative in my collection. .. I would expect to pay for it also.

The L14G3 phototransistor is the deal breaker on making your own. Not as easy to find and pretty expensive. Once you buy your own components, its only slightly cheaper than buying a premade unit.
I did figure out how to make the light pen work for Mail Plane through emulation. I was trying to take screen captures of the game and the light pen freezes when you do it and only resetting the game allows it to work again.

I didn't experience any problems when testing Mail Plane in ParaJVE, although admittedly I didn't try screen capture. The light pen gets replaced by the mouse pointer in ParaJVE and I found playing the game easier than using a light pen on a real Vectrex!
