A couple of recent posts prompted me to start this thread. Perhaps if it gathers pace it could be turned into a sticky?
We know (presumably) by typing in 'GAME' into Gravitrex you call up the hidden game. We also now know if you don't catch the creature on level 1 and keep it at low speed you can go on forever in Web Wars/Warp. I, Cyborg codes to follow (hopefully).
Any more?

There isn't a code for every single Vectrex game released, but a page for Vectrex easter eggs is on my Vectrex wiki, having several game codes. I also have strategy guides for Mine Storm (pretty long though!), Sectis and Continuum on there, the latter of which has a solution for all puzzles.

I brought out I, Cyborg and went through it yesterday and this morning. I had gotten rusty on it but got back into it quickly so I thought I'd bump up this topic in regards to something cute on it:
Has anyone confused Thunderhead before at the end? Throw the Cosmic Boomerang, then move out of the way and lose it on purpose. Thunderhead stops shooting and changes the expression on his face like he can't believe what an imbecile you were for doing that. He'll start shooting again and you'll die but it's worth it to see the expression on his face!

I have no idea what is meant by "type in GAME" into Gravitrex. I only have the freeware ROM - does this code only work on the cartridge, Gravitrex Plus?

Yeah I think it's only for the cart, because I know a lot of stuff was left out of the ROM, as the game has some kind of retro intro to it which doesn't happen on an emulator.
The game also has password saves which also doesn't happen with the ROM either, which is where you'd type it in to play Paratroopers.

Yep, that only works with the cart. Paratroopers is included on the latest version of ParaJVE (I think; if not, it can be downloaded and played separately). I figured I would give this a bump to see if any discussions or requests for game tips were needed. Also, people had said elsewhere on here on another thread (somewhere) that they thought I, Cyborg was a bit difficult. I just started working on a strategy guide to that today Dunno if the tips will help, but it'll be up at some point in the near future; hopefully by this weekend. So far I ran through the first two areas today and started taking notes. The category page for the slowly growing strategy guides part of the Vectrex wiki is here, by the way: vectrex.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Strategy_guides On any said page, just either scroll down to the bottom and click on the Strategy guide tabber under Links or scroll down a little from the top of each page and click on Links under the Table of contents.

Hint for Protector/Bedlam/Gravitrex etc:
Play with a converted SNES pad rather than the GCE control panel. It's much easier to make quick, controlled movements this way.
Hints for Web Wars:
If after you've caught 7 or 8 trophies you seem to automatically crash into the next ones, try moving forward in the web, and catching them at a higher speed. As an alternative, try approaching at an angle from the side, rather than approaching head on. A third tactic is to let several trophies pass without attempting to catch them. All of these things seem to help to get past the bug in the middle of the game.
If you are missing 'doors' that you think you should have made, look for the corner of the door that touches a line in the web. Line yourself up right on that line as you approach. You will nearly always make it.
... I might like some tips on Dark Tower, especially if anyone really enjoys this game and can explain their process. I tried to map things out on paper like is recommended, but just ended up getting really frustrated.
... and Darryl, I would like to know how you get 109,600 starting on level 2 in Gravitrex!?! It's so much harder than the first galaxy. Would be cool to see video of that happening.

... and Darryl, I would like to know how you get 109,600 starting on level 2 in Gravitrex!?! Just by playing it to the end, rescuing all humans and beaming up all fuel tanks. It's so much harder than the first galaxy. I'm just got tired of playing the game from the very beginning a while back, so I've been starting on the second galaxy. Would be cool to see video of that happening. I doubt I can film one with my mom's iPad, as the camera isn't very good. I haven't really tried it with too much yet though. I'll give it a whirl at some point though for you once I eventually get a decent camera.

I'll give it a whirl at some point though for you once I eventually get a decent camera. I guess you can't really film with an iPad and play Vectrex at the same time, since the iPad doesn't fit on a tripod, or even sit on a table. Maybe you can get your mom to do the camera work. ;D Most of the videos I put up are taken with an iPad and I think they look pretty decent. I have iPad2, which is probably what you have if it has a camera. Or else iPad3 which I'm sure is at least as good, if not better. I'm just wondering what your techniques are, especially assuming you are using the regular vectrex control panel. In the second galaxy there are all these parts where you have to enter an area that is constantly defended and you have to move right through the line of fire to complete the goals. Seems impossible to not burn a lot of ships in the process, and I know if you start on level one you can have more ships for level 2 than you would if you just start at level 2. Can't imagine what level 3 is like, and i do NOT want to know the password for that. Such a cool game. Just tons of engaging challenge and arcade-like fun. Right now it's the main one that i'm playing, but i imagine it is also one that i will constantly return to. ...

VectorX, do you have a smartphone? They have recording capabilities and can do pretty decent video. Easier to handle than a tablet and you may be able to put it on some kind of stand much more easily.

No, my phone's way too obsolete to record anything. I guess you can't really film with an iPad and play Vectrex at the same time, since the iPad doesn't fit on a tripod, or even sit on a table. I think I can prop it up with my feet if I have to and record with the Vectrex on the floor. Maybe you can get your mom to do the camera work. ;D For an hour and a half?! Because that's what I'd like to do with filming my later version of Mine Storm, which goes to level 89. All I've made are a couple of brief videos capturing the passing of level 13/Space Dust, since the digital camera can only film 15 seconds of footage max, with no sound. I'd like to catch all the weird Alien Forces floating around. There's hardly any post-level 13 stuff on YouTube. Most of the videos I put up are taken with an iPad and I think they look pretty decent. I have iPad2, which is probably what you have if it has a camera. Or else iPad3 which I'm sure is at least as good, if not better. I still haven't messed around with that much. Maybe by tomorrow I'll be able to, but I can't promise anything. I'm just wondering what your techniques are, especially assuming you are using the regular vectrex control panel. No, I use a modified Genny one. I'll eventually have a strategy guide for Gravitrex, but it'll be a nightmare to do, since I'll have to take a ton of photos and label pics where there are somewhat safe spots to go onscreen to take out targets, along with where the space ships appear along the surface to watch out for, etc., etc. One thing I'll pass along now is that each bunker only fires one at a time. Before you shoot one, let it get a shot off, then thrust over into its area and shoot it. After it fires, a different one will shoot elsewhere on the screen and you'll be much safer taking the first one out that way. In the second galaxy there are all these parts where you have to enter an area that is constantly defended and you have to move right through the line of fire to complete the goals. Seems impossible to not burn a lot of ships in the process, I DO burn a lot of ships there still! And on level 3! Can't imagine what level 3 is like, and i do NOT want to know the password for that. One has really screwy gravity, where it pulls you in one direction, you fly through a narrow place that pulls you in one direction, you thrust up to a small area, and that area then pulls you down. Really nuts!

Well if it would be that much of a production I suppose it is too much for me to ask. I'm still satisfied to play the game as I do, which is tons of fun. Just sounds like you are a bit of a savant at playing this game (and others), and that it might make for a very entertaining video. Perhaps someday I will try to arrange for myself to film this event. For me, "beating" these Vectrex games is not generally a concern. Compared to the NES era games I grew up with, the whole notion of completing a game seems much less relevant. In some respect it even seems that the prospect of conquering a Vectrex game detracts from the fun of playing. I do think that I could capture all 21 trophies in Web Wars one day if I really focus on it (most I've gotten is 17). I'd probably take a picture to confirm that event. ... But once I accomplished that I'd probably just go back to playing the game for fun, capturing 10 to 15 trophies each time.

Well if it would be that much of a production I suppose it is too much for me to ask. It wouldn't take very long to film such a thing--maybe half an hour--I just haven't really messed with it yet. I know I tried it with a Scramble overlay on and it looked like crap. I can try it with another overlay, without one, with the lights off, etc...a few things I can try to see how it comes out looking before I'll try to commit to anything. Just sounds like you are a bit of a savant at playing this game (and others), and that it might make for a very entertaining video. ...hence why I was real disappointed when I couldn't do a proper announcement video for the Play Your Vectrex Day promotion. That one'll be fun, I promise! For a Gravitrex or any other kind of walkthrough-type vid, it'd pretty much be serious though, just doing the facts. And getting back to Bedlam that was mentioned earlier, one tip that I have is for using the Zap feature: a lot of the time all the enemies will be left onscreen after you use it in the later levels of the game, making it worthless. If you're at the point where you have to use it, wait for as long as possible and don't move or shoot when you use it. That seems to fix the problem most of the time, for some reason.
