Yeh too bad about the Gravitrex video for now. Where there's a will, there's a way I reshot it, with the first one being 15 minutes, then eight for the last one. Still too big to e-mail, so I'm sending it to YouTube. Says its going to take three hours though I might do the eight minute one first, but then I don't know how it'll look anyway. If it looks like crap it'll be gone. The iPad fell over at one point ;D Hard to try to play with your knees up to your neck and trying to hold an iPad with your legs and all! Interesting experiment, to say the least! Also saw it is supposed to work with the iCade peripheral. ... Unfortunately I have the Atari Arcade, which ONLY works with the Atari Greatest Hits app. ... Can't see myself buying another iPad controller peripheral, (and I can't trade away the Atari one bc it was a gift). How is that Atari package? I ran across it the other day. ... Back to the hints and tips - Has anyone ever gotten 21 trophies in Web Wars? If so, was it worth the effort? Is there any payoff? Cool ending? I doubt it on the latter, but you never know.

Atari Arcade is fun and it was a great Christmas present from my sister. ... So many (inexpensive) arcade games have been ported to iPad though, and it really stinks that this controller does not support them. (Original Defender is FREE in Midway Arcade, X-Men arcade port is like $3, several Sega Genesis titles are $2 to $3...). All of this stuff works on iCade.
The Atari Greatest Hits app is a mixed review from me, (terrible review from others). It's a nice collection and set-up, but the app has a terrible history of crashing. ... For a while I could only get it to work when I had a Wi-Fi connection (even though it isn't necessary to play, the app would immediately crash otherwise). I think I somehow 'reinstalled' the app and that fixed the problem.
The Atari Arcade does not include the games. You can download the Greatest Hits app for free, and it includes Missile Command, but the rest of the games must be purchased from within the app. The 'game packs' are sorted into purchases of 3 or 4 at a time for maybe $3 per pack. Or you can buy them all (for $20 i think). You get no credit for buying the packs previously if you eventually buy the whole lot, so I think I spent over $30 in the end to get all the games. (It was very annoying that it would still show you ALL of the games in the menus and you couldn't remember which ones you'd bought). The app also works with the iCade.
Only Atari licensed games are in the collection. The games are sorted into Arcade and Console (2600 only). The arcade is the best and includes several of the best vector games (Gravitar, Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Battlezone, Space Duel, Major Havoc, Red Baron). There is no simulated glow or anything in the vector games, just straight presentation. Looks very slick in my opinion. 2600 doesn't generally get my attention, so it was cool that this presentation led me to a few games I wouldn't have discovered otherwise - Secret Quest, Sword Quest, Adventure. ... Playing with the touch screen has a lot of different control setups to choose from, which would have been nice to also have with the Atari Arcade buttons.
I believe Atari Arcade retails around $60 vs iCade $100. The slim design is cool, (but so is the iCade arcade box). The stick and buttons are durable enough, but not terribly satisfying mechanically. Still it is cool to play these games on an iPad with these controls. ... I would be disappointed if I purchased all this, (same with the iPad itself $$$), but as a gift it's plenty fun.
The Atari Arcade was BIG for me because it led to me re-encountering the vector games, discovering the term "vector games", and DISCOVERING VECTREX. So you could say that I am very happy Atari made this product and that my sister gifted it to me.

Thanks for the detailed review. At least I know now not to waste time downloading the "free" Atari package that I saw the other day. I might see about buying the arcade stuff when I've got my own iPad (or whatever I decide to get) sometime in the future. Gravitrex videos still might be a ways off: it would take five hours to upload part one, which I tried doing this morning. An hour later only 4% was uploaded and it said it would still take five hours. Wondering what the deal was, it then said the upload was aborted. Gee, thanks

Good news: I didn't start on the "impossible", but more likely "the very long and detailed" of coming up with a strategy guide for Gravitrex Plus Altogether this will be a helluva undertaking. However, I only just figured the other day "who said I had to do the whole thing at ONCE?", and decided I could just do one solar system at a time, announcing them as I go along. Also, since the guide will be so huge, as every screen has its own strategies and tips, which I figured I should split it into two tabbers on the Vectrex wiki entry, with tips for Patriots 3/Paratroopers taking up one tab, and all of Gravitrex on the other. And plus I can dump the Paratroopers tips on the Bottom of the Screen Shooter wiki first (since Paratroopers has its own page, with many details cut out of Gravitrex and Patriots, since those aren't fellow BOTSS games), see if it needs any tweaks or anything, then put it on the Vectrex one, along with the others. Right now I put up all the general tips I could think of, fired up the game, then dictated several more notes on my digital recorder to transcribe on my computer file for it (which I got called to dinner before I could do that). Next will be firing up the emulator on here for screenshots, labeling them for certain tips and continuing the write-up. Hopefully I'll have a fair amount of it up in a few weeks. So, for those wanting some tips on this, standby.

Bit of an update here, which I'll get the bad news out of the way first, although a LOT of work has been done on everything else though! * Patriots 3 strategy guide--haven't done anything yet. This won't take that long though, due to the difficulty of the game, and sessions of it don't last very long! I just haven't written anything yet though, but I'll be looking to do this soon. * Paratroopers--just finished and put this up on my bottom of the screen shooter wiki. Once I'm done with the above and level one of Gravitrex I'll dump it over to the Vectrex wiki. There probably aren't any tips that you haven't already figured out with the game (since a bit of it has to do with luck, due to it being random), but if you still want to take a look at it you can do so here (click on the Playing tips tabber under Links at the bottom). Gravitrex is so complex it's split into two sections! * General playing tips--I just finished writing these out today, which alone are like a page and a half! * Screen by screen breakdown/guide of level 1--maybe almost finished? I've taken photos of every screenshot of every planet, labeled them, and did a write-up for just about all of them, if I remember correctly (I haven't worked on this for a week, at least). If I'm not done with that then I think I'm fairly close; I'll have to check. Hopefully I can have all of the above up in a week, depending on circumstances.

^Nope, I was a bit off there, but hopefully everything will be up by tomorrow! vectrex.wikia.com/wiki/Gravitrex_PlusScroll way the hell down to Links and click on whichever tabber you want. Patriots 3 and Paratroopers share one tab. Right now I only have general playing tips up for Gravitrex. Tomorrow I hope to upload all 16 pictures from all planets on the first universe/level and a walkthrough for them.

Yep, that's done. Now I have to copy all of that onto the backup wiki later.

Well gee...FINALLY!
Originally I meant to have level 2 of the Gravitrex strategy guide write-up go up on the wiki in October. I didn't feel like doing it then, but by the first week of December, I somehow started bashing it out, getting screenshots labeled and ready, bam, bam, bam, getting planet after planet done, then the big BAM: mom's computer (allegedly) bit the dust.
Oh, great. I had moved a crapload of stuff onto my flash drives, and the Gravitrex stuff was going to be the last to go. I copied the document that it's on as well, but it was an older copy: it had the instructions of "go to point __, shooting the bunker at point __" and all, but none of the blanks were filled in. I would label screenshots with the blanks on them, but didn't feel like going through everything all over again, plus my photos were stuck on the computer!
Finally, after several weeks, my dad (somehow) wised up and got a new computer guy to come out here to replace the one who had been ripping him off for years, and he was able to get mom's computer back from the supposed dead (something the other guy did not even offer to do). Everything was still there. I copied everything and finished the second to the last planet I was on, but I had screwed up and not finished the previous planet, yet saved my game after I had blown it up! So I started a new game, getting to the second level, then I've since finished labeling everything except for one last screen on the last planet, and all the while with the computer running horribly slow (which will soon be fixed as well). Bit of a nightmare there.
The pictures will be up soon, followed by the text before the end of next week. So for anyone who hasn't seen any of level 2, at least you'll have that to look at, at least.
Sorry for the huge delay for anyone waiting for this.

It's now complete! All three levels are up! vectrex.wikia.com/wiki/Gravitrex_Plus(under Links at the bottom of the page) Next will be a video at some point, which is probably what everyone wanted in the first place anyway. I'll do that at some point.

I'm stuck in 3D Sector-X and I think I'm anxious enough to start cheating! Or at least get a couple hints. Can anyone nudge me through sector 5? It is the non-shooting level where there is a total of three squares and one of the squares has a bird like creature circling around it. I saw mention of a walkthrough for this game in one of the old archived forums, but could not find it. .. Plus hoping I just need a hint for this level rather than a complete solution. Definitely did not complete the third though, so I will have to check out your guide. .. But yeah the video was my main interest and I wasn't so much looking for solutions as much as a general idea of how you play. I figured it would be entertaining. .. Funny to read through this thread and see sj referring to Gravitrex and I,Cyborg.

Someone had posted a while back in regards to the level where the dragon (I think it is) kills them as well. If I had a 3-D Imager or repro I probably would've gone through it by now, but unfortunately I don't and haven't played my copy of the game yet. Someday... Yeah, that's what I would've rather done, but oh well. That'll come some day. Too bad the web cam someone donated to me has the usual problem where Vectrex footage comes out blurry, so that's on hold. Plus I have cats that come in here and can muck up the footage (that's why the footage for my ZSB/Thrust video has the latter stuff off to the side: one cat jumped up on here and bumped the camera. ZSB footage was centered, but Thrust wasn't). At least once I get a camera I can close my door and film that way; this one doesn't close all the way, hence why I get "visitors".

Ok ok, nevermind. I figured out sector 5. i will just say that it is very difficult to pull off and not obvious but that yes it is somewhat suggested by the layout of the board. Timing is ridiculously and very exactly important. .. I will also say that it helped me to keep in mind that Fury's games tend to be a bit ruthless and unfair, so that when I discovered that something was not quite possible I deduced that in fact it must actually be JUST BARELY possible. .. Sector 6 is different from any of the previous levels. It is really cool and curious looking. I've only seen it once so far!
