Skull Soccer is accessed by a secret button combo. There is a small clue on the back of the DC manual Ah ha! Got it! I love this idea of making a bonus game out of (mostly existing resources?). .. I guess it is similar too to how the Atari 2600 games had different game variations you could select, (sometimes dozens). So we get to see the core mechanics in a variety of implementations.

I agree, the atari options are often something I think about - and wonder why modern games rarely have as many play options. I love the many variations on a simple game/theme such as combat, space invaders or pong those cartridges offer.

Yeah, I always wondered that too, starting with once I got my Sega Genesis. Granted, there were a ton of games you could play on that that you wouldn't be able to do on a 2600, but I never could understand why there wasn't much tweaking with game play features back then, which still continues to this day.

The Madtronix VecVoxx has a button? That's much easier than the Vox+ from AA. I have to open it up to switch modes. Yeah, the Madtronix VecVoxX is a really nice piece of kit! Very well made with built-in speaker on top as well as a sliding volume adjuster , headphone jack on the side next to a pass-through port for a second controller, light pen/gun, ect. and that button on the bottom to switch between modes on system boot. I also believe there is a developers com-port inside that isn't exposed, but that may be a requested feature and not on all of them. I remember the old ones where you had to open them up to switch modes. Most people modified them in some way to allow for the switch to be flipped without opening the case. Love my VecVoxX; friends love it too. It adds a lot to the games that support it. It always sits on my Veccy, ready to go, along with my VecMulti v1.4, and most recently aquired, my Vectrex32! Wish I had more time to get into and play around with that last one! OK, I'm sold. I'm getting one of these! LOL

Just be prepared to wait. I have an order in with Madtronix since April I am still waiting to be invoiced for. Sent him a reminder about it in July per his advice on his website. He had his email meltdown and is swamped with pre-existing orders due to the new batch of 3D Imagers for 2016. It is worth the wait for his VecVoxX though! He has always delivered,.. eventually. Patience is required. He is a busy guy in general and I wouldn't doubt that besides the 3D imagers and maybe a few other things, some of the stuff he offers may indeed be made-to-order.

I am satisfied to attribute this to the NES paradigm, which is in effect the beginning of modern video game history. At that time video games moved more towards a storytelling medium, with a narrative and a beginning and end. .. Maybe this was established differently with computer gaming, but as far as the history and the status quo, NES was the formative influence I think. The older games are generally (and necessarily) more superficial in their content. One of the advantages of this is a more open-ended concept of gaming. The game variation options are indigenous to that environment.

I agree. First and Second Gen gaming systems were more about different game modes and Hi-Scores. With the advent of the NES (in America) and the Mega Drive, Amiga, Vic 20, ect in Europe - this all changed. I, personally, liked the Hi-score culture. But after NES, yeah, story was kinda cool, but "beating the game" was the new creed. Most of the competitiveness was lost. But still, some games catered to the old ways a lot, and the new co-op games really made up for it. On a totally unrelated side-note: I miss game manuals!!!

Unfortunately we have been waiting on the printer since August to produce our second run of overlays, they keep giving us dates and then missing those dates The person dealing with our order has been off work due to family problems but with a bit of luck our order will be completed within the next couple of weeks. I will post here, update my website and send a mass email to subscribers to my mailing list once we have the overlays in hand.

I really appreciate you and whoever is involved using their spare time to make games. I know this must take a massive amount of time. I'm really looking forward to your upcoming light gun games. They look great!

No problem. We have just had word back from the printers that the print job has finally started today so once they are done and then get die-cut (done by another company) they will be on their way to us. Hopefully you should not be waiting too much longer now, thanks for your patience.
I'm hoping to have the lightgun games and adapters available by the end of the year (depending on free time of course).
