Hello! This will be my first Vector War as I've only had a Vectrex since last December. Looking forward to it!

^Well, not everyone can get to the end of Every Day Is Halloween. And we ask for people to be honest. Cheating is pretty despicable at our age anyway. I agree... cheating is bad. I'd never want to be accused of that. So just to be clear, what are you considering cheating? --- New topic: I was thinking of how difficult it was to post images on this board last year, having to link to another site since images were limited to 1MB. Can we increase the size limit, or can we have a companion way to share info like possibly a Discord server dedicated to VWX? We could have a separate channel for: Leaderboard Announcements (could post new "codes" here) Game1 Game2 ... LastGame Then each game would have it's own channel/"thread" for sharing pics and comments... and we could more easily know when codes changed, as you could see Announcements updated. File limit on free Discord servers is 8MB, and you can share a quick 10s or so video with that much data (if you want to).

Or another way is to pay for it for just a month or two. 50tbrd graciously donated gift cards to the site a while back but Proboards doesn't accept that kind of payment, which is annoying, lest our last two Vector Wars' would've allowed everyone on here (not just for the contest) to host pics for those two months.

I took a look at the upgrade options but it's not listed anywhere. How much would it take? I found this drop down image but I don't know what size files bronze/silver offers... If you downgrade the plan, do the images remain or does the pot shink again and old files get removed? BTW: TinyUpload seems dead. It won't load for me. Discord is a really good free option And you get notification for every post, if you want it. When VWX is over, it's easy to disable notifications if you want. Discord allows for 8MB files, and unlimited history/storage for free. So unlike when TinyPic was working and would remove pics after 100 days, next year we can look back and VWX and see the pics from this year. You can take a pic from your phone, and upload it directly to the Discord app. Last year my process was like this. Take a pic on my phone. Upload to my computer. Rename the files. Open FTP Client, and upload them to my website. Find the links. Add the links to a form reply I was using that had the BBC code. Finally copy paste that from notepad to the forum... AFTER I logged in again because it keeps logging you out... and guy that pops up and wants to talk (later dude I'm trying post) This year could be, take a pic, share to Discord VWX - Vectorblade channel. Done! (or other channels). Think about it ;-)

It's hard to say, really. I went back to last year's post, and did some estimating... 23 pages * 15 posts per page * 3 pics per post * 8MB per pic = 8GB This year will have more players for sure! So it seems a little pricey for that. You could buy a year subscription to dropbox and have 100GB of storage. I don't think this forum software allows for integration with other storage options though. I'm pretty sure it's how they make their money. Discord sounds really good to me... I know we'll have a bit of a split posting between here and there, but it could be worth it.

Being what time of year it is I have to suggest Every Day is Halloween as a homebrew game for the tournament. Fun game with scoring depending on distance to enemies if I recall correctly.
Any word on Vectrexians being available? I would buy games for the tournament especially if it's a game like this I've wanted to get before. Sometimes I need that extra push to buy a game.

Discord is an easy option for pictures, but, unfortunately, you need to have an account, but I suppose anywhere will need an account these days for image hosting. (Can you login with Google/Facebook? That makes it easy to cancel, I guess.)
That said, I reckon quite a few potential non-techie competitors are put off by the fiddlyness of posting to Proboards with linked photo URLs, in which case I can't think of a better option than Discord, especially from an admin POV, with separate thread for each game.
Maybe there is some kind of app available on a mobile phone that could be used to post to a shared photo space, but I don't know of one.

A minimal and simplistic fallback solution:
Helmut registers an additional email address, something like "vector.war.at.gmail.com" (or any other free and reliable provider), and all participants simply send in their scoring screenshots by email, and post whatever they like here on the forum.
Yes, not as much fun as also having all the pictures here, but very simple and with minimum effort, as pictures can be send directly from smartphones. And this might even make the handling easier for Helmut, having one dedicated place where all the scores go. No need to scroll and read through any forums or threads for this and possibly risking to miss a post.
Just a thought...
Cheers, Peer

Or create a dedicated group on Facebook to post photos to :-D A dedicated Facebook group would mean forcing people to join Facebook, which, for various reasons, some people might not want to do.

^Yep, I've never had one.
Unfortunately there's not one simple, flat-out 100% cure-all means to putting up scores.

VectorX, maybe leave it as is this year and over the next year some of us can chip in and get you on your own server (or someone reliable can let you host on their server). The transition can be painful but probably worth it in the long run. Of course vectorgaming . com is taken... Anyway, just a thought.

Of course vectorgaming . com is taken... I didn't even know that. Too bad it isn't for the *real*, original kind of "vector gaming", if you ask me.
