I'm going to be out of town for most of the week, but I'll try to qualify at least on the previous weekend Not that Gyro* is a bad game at all (it's great!), but we did play it last year and it was a grueling hour (multiple tries of this actually) of mashing the button to get to 100%. I had some thoughts on Paratroopers last year... I think it's ok, but not a ton of skill involved and once you mess up there's no recovery. I wouldn't mind creating a competition version of Spike Gets Squished if people would like to play that. Not really a lot of new games in 2022, but I think Telengard could be a contender for homebrew. I haven't played it yet, but it has a 64K version that should run on most multicarts, albeit without saves. I think a fresh start with saves is recommended, but for a competition it probably doesn't matter like we did for Vectorblade.

But indeed, the games were played last year. What about The Count instead? That creature will give you even more grueling hours Well, my conscience is clean, 8 new Academy games this year

Nice to see another tournament this year! Calender doesnt look too busy atm so I should be able to participate. Last year for me was mostly Amiga 500, I havent played Vectrex since last year so this needs to be changed. A Crush of Lucifer was found and released this year. Havent played it yet so maybe others can speak up if is suited to be played in the tournament. Looking forward, Roland

How about adding longer lasting auto-fire pickups??? I seriously hope I haven't missed the secret to keeping auto-fire... because my arm was absolutely dead by the end of that game, but it was fun to map out the path. Like, imagine Vectorblade Level 95-99 without auto-fire or 4-shot. 2022 seems to have slipped past me without word of the new Academy games!! I'm very curious to check them out. A Crush of Lucifer is hard to get a high score, but also doable if you take a long long time playing it and don't miss. There was also a theory about cheating in that game that I don't know if it's possible to do, but if it was it would take 5x/10x longer to do so probably nobody here would try it You can repeat level 1 over and over if you miss the rings before Lucifer. Perhaps just make that a rule to not do intentionally (still possibly to do unintentionally), and it will be a good contender.

Hi All.
Awesome, that there is another Vector War this year. Strange, I really woke up this morning, and the first thing I had in my head: It's already October, will there be another Vector War and when will it be / did I already miss it...
About the games list: I remember that I (or I think most of us all) had in the year 2018 a lot of fun with the homebrew game "Floor is Lava". There was also a special version for Vector War that was showing the score at the end with a nice additional music, without switching back to main menu too fast. Only thing I cannot believe: That this is already 4 years ago, time is running fast... But if you search another great homebrew game, I would suggest "Floor is Lava" again, if all other agree :-)
EDIT: About VeCaves that Playvectrex proposed: Never played it, but after having a short look at the Youtube Video it's looking very interesting and could be great. (Just saw it short, I hope it has increasing difficulty to avoid marathoning. Also I'm in a hurry just now at the moment and was not able to find out, if we get VeCaves free for Vector War? (Buying it in the last minute could be too late for many players if it is no free available.) Anyway: It's looking great.

I doubt there will be a digital version of VecCaves as there hasnt been one all these years. Ordering from Packrat now is also too late as he needs several months to process the orders.
However if most people have a copy already I think it would be a good pick. I have a second copy I could lend out to someone for the tournament (preferably in Europe). Otherwise I suggest we keep VecCaves in mind for VW2023.

@helmut Did you ever get to test out the last Armor Attack Version I sent you?
I haven't done more on the "intro" stuff - but that last version should be ok for playing. I implemented the "wall offset" thought you had. (Mail from 31.8.)
Cheers Chris

Thank you, all for your feedback and thoughts on the coming Vector War. Your postings here are quite motivating and encouraging. ATM, I'm a bit lacking of time - I'll post a long reply tomorrow night (Monday).

Again, thank you all for your input and thoughts. Good to see both veterans (Peer, Brett, Roland, Stefan, Chris, mozie) and Vector War newbies (gkspsx) posting, here. Challenge is to find good candidates for the games list. Current suggestions in above posts are: • Crush of Lucifer • VeCaves • The Count • Telengard • Floor is Lava (I hope I didn't miss any)
It's less than three weeks now so it's probably too late to order games like VeCaves or Crush of Lucifer. But if majority possesses a homebrew game it's not a problem. Personally, I own neither VeCaves nor Crush of Lucifer but as usual during Vector War I'll organize a lot and will play little so this doesn't matter.
It's a sort of Vector War tradition that at least one game is played in two subsequent Vector Wars. This is intended as a small bonus for those people who join in every year. My impression was that Gyrostronomy/Gyrostrology would be worth while giving a second play so I listed it for a second time. And the new control needs testing. I'd suggest that we discuss a bit more and wait for other suggestions for games and then make a poll. Poll is supposed to be finished about a week before Vector War starts. Agreed? Other opinions? ___ Malban : I did receive your mail with the Armor Attack binary but to be honest I never found the time to play it. I'm sorry for that but my days have become shorter and nights longer which is good for my health but not good for my hobbies. I'll test your binary on the week-end and hope that your modification has desired impact on the game play. Reducing the number of extra lifes might be also a good idea but I'll check, first.

My impression was that Gyrostronomy/Gyrostrology would be worth while giving a second play so I listed it for a second time. And the new control needs testing. Good thing I took a picture of the large whiteboard "map" I made I think folks in the USA would have time to still purchase A Crush of Lucifer, and maybe even overseas folks if you bought it today. Honestly worth it to check out one of the original Vectrex demoes, and sell it if you don't want to collect/keep. I wish something could be worked out where if you have the game purchased, a binary could be sent to you which you agree to delete after Vector War... but Sean doesn't allow that the last time I checked. Will we allow similar controller schemes as last time as well?

Excited about vector war! Potential Game selection sounds great. Good to see you around, again, robutt! Will we allow similar controller schemes as last time as well? Yes, rules for controllers will be the same as last year (please see initial post). Please make sure to post a picture with whole Walach family sitting in front of Vectorcades. ___ Due to the short time till start of Vector War XII I have to make decisions:
"Spike gets squished" is very playable, puts Spike into scene, and is freely available. Last-not-least it's programmed by Brett, a novice Vectrex programmer but a veteran Vectrex hardware specialist. That's at least four good reasons to put "Spike gets squished" onto this year's game list.
As limited edition I choose VeCaves. VeCaves has a very simple gameplay and every year we need at least one enerving thrilling game like Veccy Bird or Beluga Dreams. This year it will be even three games with one life, only: Hex, VeCaves, and Save the Planet. VeCaves can be purchased via Packrat Video Games. I'll contact David of Packrat Video Games right away to get an indication whether orders can be fullfilled in a short time frame or not and to warn him that super-urgent orders might drop in. I'll post info, here, once I got a reply from David. Current game lists for Vector War XII are:
GCE/MB in Vector War 1. Armor Attack 2. Heads up Soccer (?) 3. Hyperchase 4. Solar Quest 5. Spike 6. Star Hawk
Homebrews:1. Save the planet by Raphael Aberle (RubberDuck) 2. Hex by Chris Malcom (Binary Star Software) 3. Gyrostronomy and Gyrostrology by Peer Johannsen 4. Spike gets squished by Brett Wallach (www.playvectrex.com) 5. VeCaves by Mark De Smet With "Heads up Soccer" I'm still unclear whether this is suitable for competition. Can somebody else tell?
